Default 98 gsr tranny noises

My tranny has been making weird noises in neutral, when i press the clutch it goes away, also when i take off on first gear the noise still exists until i hit about 20 mph. So i changed my clutch and throwout bearing....noise is still there! i need some input please. Thanks

Unfortunately, this is probably correct. You're going to need some internal transmission work.

dpending on the k on the tranny i too would say its your input shaft bearing, this is an extremely easy fix the hardest part is R&R on the tranny itself, u might want to look into upgrading to a better tranny instead or maybe adding a lsd and carbon synchros while its apart to make it worth the time, don't be afraid to pull the tranny apart yourself, this site has all the info and pics u need for a step by step rebuild, but if this is your DD i would give yourself at least an entire weekend.

Attempt a fluid flush/change. If you have no success (which you most likely won't), the transmission will need to be removed and the bearings will need to be inspected and possibly replaced. If you need transmission help PM me.

if you have it out u should inspect and replace anything thats out of spec like your synchros and synchro rings if your gonna replace one bearing u might as well replace all of them and i totally recommend the upgrade to carbon synchros they arent that expensive and your tranny will never grind again no matter what the rpm. but the question is really if u plan on keepin the car and buildin it up or if u just want the noise to go away and sell it. either way there are threads with step by step pics on here and if u need any help myself or mr. EG could probably answer any questions u have. if youre thinking about takin it in to get it done just remeber that this is fairly labour intensive and thats what you will be paying for not parts. R&R tranny should be somewhere around 4 hours plus splitting the case and changing the bearing

Sounds like your issue. Pull the trans and would recommend replacing the rest of your bearing and seals while you are there. Check all your synchros for wear as well as your gears and selector sleeves.

FWIW,
I bought a replacement bearing kit for my D series. Lasted about 50 miles before the bearings burnt again, probably installer error.
I bought a Gearspeed transmission for my D series turbo and it lasted longer than the car. Not cheap, but well built.
