R-series swap? Anyone ever done it?
I frequent ecomodder and am constantly trying to find a happy medium between power and fuel economy. I was reading up on some of the technologies Honda built into the R series that improve FE and I'm tempted to try a build with one for my wife. Torque and HP numbers are identical to an LS, which is pretty spunky in something light like a CRX or an early 90's hatch. Add 5-10mpg and it starts to look pretty attractive.
Given the choice between an R-series and one of the old HF/HX motors, I'd much rather have the newer motor, and R-series seem easier to find these days too, and not much more expensive.
If I'm not mistaken, the R-series still spin backwards, like older Honda motors. Wiring might be a nightmare but actually fitting it in the engine bay shouldn't be much of a problem, should it? Does anyone have any experience with this swap, or know of a company that sells R-series conversion kits?
