1994 Honda Accord Ex Problems Help!!
Greetings fellow honda lovers,
1994 Honda Accord Ex A/T 140k miles, Full on Lube!
I have owned a 94 Accord for two years now and it has been swell. I have had some minor problems with it when purchasing the car (abs solenoid was faulty, and a cv boot/joint was destroyed) and they both were replaced last year. But more problems have come up
Recently the muffler has gotten extremely loud, and at a quick glance i was astonished to see the rusted hole, i could almost fit my hand in. (An obvious repair is needed)
But at the same time as the muffler got loud, shifting from 2nd to 3rd became unusual, it felt like the car was "hesitant" to shift, making chugging noises before shifting to third.
And i also was notified by my last oil change (jiffy lube) my oil pan gasket needs to be replaced, which seems pretty obvious do to the nice oil smell in the car when the engine gets hot enough.
I need some help, any thoughts on the shifting problem? Hopefully it isn't the transmission because that will get expensive quick!
~Thanks

first of all discontinue going to jiffy lube if u do not want further problems in the future.
Now, the transmission not shifting have u even checked your transmission fluid level? check the screens on the shift solinoid are they clean or dirty? hows the condition of your tcu? the oil pan leaky could be what you are smelling with it driping onto your downpipe but have u taken a look at your oil pressure sending unit? when that goes out they can sometimes be leaky.

Yeah i checked the transmission fluid, its full, And I'm not sure on the screens of the solenoid or the condition of the TCU. Are theses easy to check? or are they hard to access? I'm not exactly car savvy, but as engineer(in progress) i do like getting my hands dirty.
Is the D4 blinking or staying on all of the time?
The shift solenoid, if you go there, is the lower on on the trans...open the hood and look a few inches to the left of the engine block. You should see two solenoid assy's. Again the upper one is for the lock up, the lower is the shift. Once removed from the trans, there is an o-ring gasket that has a "screen" filter to it. Personally, with age and miles, I'd be worried about removing, cleaning and re-install......better to just buy a new one from the dealer.
Now, me. When was the last time the fluid was changed, and please tell me Honda trans fluid was used. If you are not sure or non-Honda fluid was used, suggest a drain and fill (maybe two or three) with Honda trans fluid.
I'd also inspect the mounts - especially the front one, you can see it between the rad and engine.
