my 99 lasted 190k before the transmission went out. all depends how the car was taken care of. Normally driven, stock car that has been well maintained should have no transmission issues. Beet on, or neglected and you could have some issues.

190k? I have a GM V6 that is @ 220k and has no signs of trans issues.:knocks on wood: So your saying that a Honda trans that gives up the ghost @ 190k is normal? I wouldn't buy it then.

That dealer maintained and pampered driving info is not always true. I have seen trans that were dealer maintained and driven respectfully still have issues. It's hit and miss! Best bet is to ask the seller if the transmission has been replaced or rebuilt before. If they have no idea what you are talking about....walk away!

Everyone who owns one of these model V6 Accords should know all about the transmission issues by now.

I actually do know. the previous owner kept extensive maintenance records which, in addition to the condition, led me to believe it was well maintained. the case was in the same condition as the block etc. so i knew it was original. I wouldn't call having a transmission that lasts longer than 100k lucky either, Honda would not have made any transmission for four years if it was so bad that it is pretty much guaranteed to go out at 100k. From what you say about your car it has pretty low miles and since you paid $5k for it Im going to assume it appeared well kept. Assuming its stock, you should not be having transmission troubles any time soon. There are a lot of variables that go into transmission failure but I think most of the failures are due to some sort of abuse weather its driving style, aftermarket parts, or lack of maintenance

I paid $3,500 cash for my 2002 Accord V6 with almost every option, 16" alloys, sunroof, leather, power everything, it had professionally installed window tint, really taken care of and they have all the records since day one. It had 202k when I bought it last summer and the trans was rebuilt at around 145k. He was asking $4500 originally, blue book was at about $5500 even with the high mileage.

I would say that's a good deal if the trans was replaced already. If not, then I'd say it could be a little risky. Bring up the transmission problem to the seller and try to get them to go down.

If you do get the car and the trans does need to replace, definitely throw in a manual.

Keep it in good shape and the engine should last you a long time. My dad's 94 has 250k+ and still going strong.
