mr clean... carpet clean
hey guys, i did a quick search on this already
my carpet is pretty dingy in my hatch, im thinking about taking out my interior tomorrow, pulling the carpet and hitting it with some degreaser, cleaners, scrubber and power washer. any ideas? dont want to call a stream cleaner for just this and hoping i can liven it up a bit on my weekend off with what i have on hand

Just went through this so this is my take:
If you can pull the carpet (or at minimum remove the seats), call someone in for a steam clean (not a "shampoo", but actual steam clean) - this will be the most effective way to clean the carpet.
Played around with a 12 year old carpet with Resolve, garden hose, Little Green, etc. and the 5 min. steam clean left the carpet almost like new and cost less than all DIY stuff I tried before breaking down and calling a pro.
The Little Green will pull brown gunk out seemingly all day but the carpet will still appear somewhat grimy. I think it needs just a little more suction or a heater. The LG is great if the stain is recent (ie. spilled coffee, etc.).

Not trying to jack your thread OP, but my carpet is soaked with coolant from a blown heater core. I'm planning on taking it out sometime, what would be the best way to dry it out/clean it? And is a rug doctor the same thing as a steamer?

Garbage Can-> Fill with (Hot)Water + Rit Dye + Carpet-> Let it sit for a few days -> Wash -> Enjoy
Hot water helps but obviously the water wont stay hot so if you cant use hot water, let the carpet sit in the can longer
@Cap'N your best bet is to use a nice safe soap, dawn should work, and just wash the heck out of the carpet, hang it up on a clothesline and let it dry for a couple days.

Rug doctors are steam cleaners, but the ones you rent are royal **** compared to the ones you can buy. Don't waste your time with a rental unit.

Being from S. FL (and a newbie) I had to check this out as I'd love to network with other Honda owners - but the excessive (and expected) use of "n*gga-this", "n*igga-that", and b*tch as punctuation by persons obviously of white or Hispanic origin (myself) is an ultra turnoff...

Pops has this.

I used it once before it works great. Can't wait to try it on my car.

FRIGGEN AWESOME!!!! i went to rinse the rag and the water was near black comin off it. ALL the stains i had are gone, the car smells better too!

I didn't believe it, but oxyclean works good for cleaning stuff. we use it on our carboys for making homemade beer and I've cleaned oily, greasy work pants and it takes stuff right out. The Little Green Machine we have works good also. I let the cleaner soak a little, spray it with a little water and then very slowly I suction it out while sprayer water on it. I spray the cleaner from a spray bottle and keep the resevoir of the machine full of water.
Or save up a couple more bucks and go buy a real one. Like I already said, the rental units are ****. You can get a portable unit at WalMart for $50-$100, and use it for as long as you want.
i used one from a store and it worked great a RugDoctor... but i bought my own steam vac but now i barely use it
I used to have a Rug Doctor service rep as a client. He told me time and time again, that the rental machines (red shells) are a piece of ****, aren't maintained, and for the price, do a shitty job. After testing one and comparing it to just the rub in carpet cleaner powder plus a vacuum, the vacuum actually cleaned better than the damn Rug Doctor did.
Just buy one for $100 and call it a day. You should use it once a year in your house and your cars during spring cleaning, anyway. They also work wonders for getting the smell of smoke out (both cigarette smoke and "whoops my car was on fire" smoke).

http://www.jacquardproducts.com/ because RIT eventually washed out of fabrics after multiple washes. But if the fabric stayed dry I assume it would last.
