your 3rd gear syncro is probably done check the shift linkage first does it shift into 3rd while in neutral? does it pop out of rd or it just doesnt go into 3rd

will it go into gear when the car is off? also like ronj@ht asked "any mtf in it? my guess is that you are low on fulid and the sycros are proable about shot and not have the correct amount of fulid isnt helping

Please tell me I'm not the only person waiting for the OP to come back and tell us it's an automatic.
Check fluid, check linkage, see if it'll shift while the car's off, work from there.
