Replaced Wheel Bearing Still Noisy
Little background info, 2001 Accord EX-V6 sedan, 62k on it, all brakes replaced over summer and wheel bearing replaced on Saturday. The problem is when I make a left turn (loading the right side of the car) I get a humming noise that I thought was a for sure wheel bearing. I put off fixing it for a few weeks because I wanted to have a good amount of time to work on it in case something came up. Anyway as I get closer to being able to fix it the noise gets a little worse but I can also feel a little bit of bumping/binding. So Saturday I get a chance to change the bearing and after driving for about 5 minutes the noise returned. I didn't replace the hub while I did the bearing and I'm thinking I should have. Maybe there is an imperfection? Anyone have any issues like this or have any idea what could be causing this problem? I've considered changing the half shaft and also doing the hub just for ***** and giggles. On a side note the tires that are currently on the car are NOISY. I'll be changing those hopefully next week with something less annoying. Thanks in advance for any help.
I usually found that when testing for front end noises that a clunk or thump noise found only while turning usually ended up being the CV joint.
These bearings are dual ball bearings. Believe it or not, you can have a left side bearing that makes noise when turing left. Instead of the other way around.
The way to check, if the noise isn't so loud you can tell which side it's on because it's that fricken obvious, is to raise the vehicle in the air, run it at speed and listen to the knuckles with an automotive stethescope ( probably $10 at an auto store ).
I've been bitten in the *** by assuming a bad wheel bearing is on a certain side because of loading the car left/right.
Fool me once, shame on the car. Fool me twice shame on me.
