Default "Newbie" here...

Hey everybody, just joined H-T, so I figured I would start off with a post about me. I own a 91' CRX Si, which was "riced out" (pictures to be attached) by the previous owner, and now I am currently trying to go back to the original JDM look. I have a feeling its going to be a lot of work and time and money to do this, however I just feel that the CRX looks better as a stock looking car. I plan to be spending a lot of time on this website because I'm fairly new to tuning, restoring, and rebuilding a car. I hope that everyone can help me and I can grow to be a helpful member of this community. Thank you for your time by reading this.

While all of that is "neat", you should take a look at the rules before hand.

Also, 80% of your questions will be answered in the FAQ.

So these are some of the pics of the CRX I bought, I'm going to need to do a lot of work to it to get it where I want it but the body is in perfect shape. Good starting point.

I plan to get rid of those, the sparcos, the rollcage, I want to restore it, and work on the ngine a little more, its got an LS/Vtec in it and its running, but I dont think the Vtec is working properly and I need to get it to someone who knows what to do to fix it. Also I think its burning gas really quick, so I have to solve that issue. I just want it to last until I can do a better swap. As long as the motor will hold up, Im going to try to start restoring the body back to the "Stock Si" look.

I am sorry but you are better off selling that and getting a different vehicle. I absolutley love 100% stock cars (aside from engine/transmission work/swaps) myself, but you can also see the previous owner poured a lot of time and money into the car. I can't stand the rice but I must admit it don't look all that bad. It flows, somewhat, and at least all the paint matches and the body kit isn't destroyed. I am sure there are quite a few kids that would want it and it is tax season!

I get what you are saying, in that it might be easier to just sell it, but it was one of the best that I could find in terms of body integrity. Also, I think that as long as I can start acquiring parts for it, its still a nice car as is, and I won't start until I have everything I need so it will never be mismatched. I'll keep driving it until I get all the body pieces and then once I have everything, commence to swapping the body back to original jdm and then get the paint done. Then do interior, and then do the engine, I just don't want to have it look completely riced anymore.

They are the same wheels? I don't see what exactly you're looking at...
Also I don't think anybody is going to want that body kit, but thanks for the idea I hadn't thought of that.

I would keep it like it is and just change Head lights, Tail lights corner lights and add bumper lights. Clean up the engine bay and call it a day this car only represents the Honda scene of 9-10 years ago before everything was JDM.

Seriously considered it, but I don't think any other tail lights speciffically will look good with that body kit, and the engine bay definitely needs work but that will be done last...

Also, I have a CEL on, but I cant check the code because the diagnostic plug's brown cable is cut, can I just strip the wire back to come copper and connect them then re-wrap with some electrical tape? I'm hoping that is fine, because I need to figure out the code, and the previous owner said when he had the code that it was just an ELD code, but I want to see it for myself.

#1 thing on your to-do list would be to remove the bars for the roll cage that pass by your head.
Padded or not, it will pop your head like a melon in an accident.
#2 would be to do something with that exhaust. I'm laughing hard at those tips and the overspray!
Keep it riced if you want... it has just about ever rice piece of equipment that Manny, Moe, and Jack can offer. Got underglows?

You can do just what you said for the code wire.
Putting a connector on it rather than taping would be a better fix though.

LOL, I previously said, I want that roll cage out and to get rid of all that "rice", NO I don't have underglows (thank god). I will try to tape it tonight as a simple fix to get the code and then once I get the code I will get a connector right after it. I can obviously see that you're not a "fan" of the car as it stands, hopefully after I get to restore it, you will like my build thread...

Anytime I see Z3 fenders I cry.
It's not that I'm not a "fan", but just looking at the car it doesn't have flow.
Although the kit appears to have time and effort spent to be installed correctly, it has a smooth and curvey look that doesn't seem to flow from the front to back of the car.
Then the top of the car has more defined sharp lines.
The rear wheel area looks like it is just asking for 22" wheels.
I have no idea what's going on with the chicken coop under the back bumper.
... and then those exhaust tips again.
And what's up with the race cut-off safety switch on the rear bumper? Does it turn off power to the car ... if I were a car jacker >muaaahahahaaaa<?

Not hating or anything... just not appealing to my eyes.

Yes it is a battery kill switch, so yeah you wouldnt be able to jack it, and yes I hate the chicken coop as well, the body kit is not what I WANT AT ALL, but it has a very good body on the car which was the whole reason I got it in the first place. Just because the body is in good shape I will not have to worry about anything except acquiring the stock jdm si parts, and then swap it all at once, I wont have to worry about new doors, new hatch, new sunroof, none of that. It makes the restoration a lot easier so it makes me happy.

Well, got the CEL codes today, I have 2...... #6 (water temperature sensor) and #20 (ELD). So my question is how hard are these to find/fix, and how much will it run me if I do it myself?

Also are these CEL codes a serious issue? I mean I have seen a lot of posts saying that the ELD isn't really a HUGE issue, but I honestly think I'm throwing that code because of all the electronic **** in the car. The Water Temperature Sensor on the other hand, how serious is this and will it cause a lot of damage to my car to drive it with this CEL code?

seems pretty easy if it is the sensor and eld and not something else
example, I was getting o2 sensor codes and checked everything related
o2 sensor
grounds
wiring
ecu
exhaust
then I moved to other things like timing
Finally found out it was the fuel pressure that was low

On a sidenote
The eld is built into the engine bay fuse box
And I have a good one for sale if you want it

How much do you think a new coolant sensor will cost me, and pm me the details of the fuse box for sale...

Also how much time of labor will this take roughly...
