Default 98 Civic single beam projectors?

I've had HIDs on my Civic for something like two years now, and I'm still using the stock headlight housings. For anyone that doesn't know, that causes a messed up beam pattern. I've spent the last year off and on searching for single beam projectors, but everything I've found is either rice as hell, or dual beam. I just want some housings - I don't want to have to replace my HID kit to run dual beam.

Has anyone ever seen single beam projector housings for a 96-98 Civic? If not, does anyone have information on how to retrofit one? I don't mind getting my hands dirty.

Single beam meaning it only has one of these, rather than two like every projector housing you see online. I'll check the Lighting forum, thanks.

Eh, the lighting forum is just a bunch of "look at my pretty lights" chest pounding.

Thanks Grumble, if you happen to see anything, keep me in mind.

I can not remember does the TSX coversation have a single beam or dual beam?

I am thinking a single beam would look weird?

There are plenty of retros out there with single beams, and they don't look weird. If it's done right, they almost look OEM. I'm going to call a few retrofit companies today and see what I'm looking at for parts.

TSX conversion? The only information I can find on that is that the TSX is based off the Accord, but the RSX is based off the 8th gen Civic, which still doesn't help. The TSX and RSX both have dual beam headlights.

retrofit your stock headlights thats all it comes down to this guy means TSX retrofit meaning using the projector from a Acura TSX

if u buy headlights with a projector in them its almost as bad as stock housings instead of spending 300 dollars on headlights might as well buy TSX projectors or Infinity FX35 self adjusting projectors for 150-250 just my .002

its not that hard to retrofit took me half a day to do both of my headlighs

^ That $150 you spend on TSX projectors can get you a set of Mini Morimoto projectors that perform better. They're bixenon as well. I love mine

My headlights are cheap aftermarket Ebay I never got around to swapping out. Was looking at a set of the TYCs and the MM projectors and retofit that route. In the stock housings they just looked grafted on, like an afterthought. No flow to them.

Anyone selling some 99-00 TYCs PM me.

With the TYC you will have a hard time using the MM projector's mounting system. Here's mine, I painted the shrouds and used paint thinner to get the chrome ring around them.

Yeah i've been loooking into doing this as well. I found some Morimoto Mini H1's v4.1 from http://www.theretrofitsource.com/pro...5mst43kekbcj9h

I would try using these if you were interested in trying a retrofit.

Guess it's time to go junkyard browsing for a scrapped TSX then, thanks guys.

Tkrizz, TYC is a company that makes headlight housings. http://www.tycoonlights.com/

I have TSX projectors in my 96. they have been doing well for about two years now. they are low beam only, so i have no high beams. they are a little dated but they put out plenty of light. i also have matsushita gen 3 ballasts (nissan/infiniti).

i always thought that the self adjusting projectors like i have in my audi are cool because i never had to point them also i think that the best HID kit that i ever used is the Phillips BMW/Audi HID kit forgot the official name on the ballast but it uses a D2S bulb and they are just great

Mini Morimoto have a D2S version as well

I remember someone tried making the RX330 self leveling projectors work, not sure if they succeeded. Would be pretty cool though

if you dont use your high beams then a single xenon projector would work.. dont get tsx's.. they cost too much, even though they are brighter than stock halogens, they arent the greatest projector out there.. look into rx330s, they are cheaper and perform better..

if you want a high beam, you need bixenon like mini h1s or fx-rs or even tls.. you will still just use the ballasts you have the difference is the shield.. the shield for bixenons flip down to allow more light out.. its best to use a relay harness to control all of that..

Completely forgot about this thread after it was moved.

I already have the HID bulbs and ballasts, and my bulbs/ballasts are high/low, thus why I want single beam projectors. Looks like my only option is a retrofit. Granted, I don't even know how the high/lows work. I always assumed it was two different voltages for different brightnesses. Is that not the case?

What's the best bet for a retrofit? I rather like the looks of the Iris. Obviously I'll need to do some fabrication work to make it all go together, but would that $40 cover everything I need?

The bixenon projectors flip the cutoff shield down for high beams. Basically there is a solenoid attached to the cutoff shield (that blocks light above the cutoff), when the high beam is activated the shield is flipped down all light is released and you no longer have a cutoff.

you will need the projectors, bulbs, shrouds, and a relay harness to control the bixenon.. your high/low beam i assume is just a pnp kit, not a retro.. if thats the case, like i said above, the high isnt even really a high beam.. when you do a retro you cant use the bulbs you have now.. if you go with a single xenon projector you wont have a high beam anymore.. thats why i said you will need a bixenon projector..

Where should I look to get these parts? I have Philips D2S bulbs, will I still need new bulbs? Yes, it is a PnP kit, thus why I'm trying to get true projectors for it.
