Default Starter Problems

Hi everyone, new here. I'm trying to find a little bit of expertise on honda accords.

My starter on my 2005 2.4 4 cyl Honda Accord recently crapped out. Brought it to O'Reillys, had them test it, bought a new one.

There was a slight problem with the new one, which the guy helping me and the manager there noticed - there was a solonoid on the top of it, which we all noticed didn't match the old one. He called another store to verify that it wasn't misboxed, which it wasn't...

Everything went smooth putting it in, and it started with no problems. Other than a screeching when starting. A metallicy almost grinding.

The link below is a link to the car's starter options...

I paid for the far left one, but the one I got was the far right one. Both appear to be acceptable, so I guess I got the better one (subscribing to more expensive is better?)?.

But the screeching sound? I'm worried it might be an issue and if I've read that if it does something to the flywheel I'm in trouble.

Thanks!

that screeching metal sound is the flywheel being eaten away by the starter cog... i'd pull that bad boy out asap and get a corrected unit

Would it most likely be an installation problem or its the wrong part?

there really is not an adjustment on that install... it's either in correct or it's not. I can not say whether or not this is a part problem. I dont know orielly parts, and I can not see the part in question.

it could even be that the part is correct, but your existing flywheel is already damaged from the previous starter. it could have a low spot on it. but if it had never done this before, I do not think that is your issue.

Is it possible it had a shim? I did not see a shim when taking it off, and I would imagine it would be pretty obvious?

no...

IT IS possible that the new starter is not fully engaging. Bad new parts just happen every once an a while with discounted parts.
