what brake pads?
how hard were you on the brakes when this happened?
do the rims/rotors get hot when you drive it?

Kinda out there, but check the little metal piece on the brake that's supposed to squeak when your pads get low. Also, I had my dust cover behind the rotor touching, that made a few sparks, but it also made a slight screeching sound, so I noticed pretty quick.
