i was wondering if anyone can tell me if ur car is more prone to breaking down or having more engine trouble after turboing the engine?
lets say that one takes very good care of the car after putting the turbo on as well. my car is a 2001 civic ex

 

Dont count on reliability. Make sure you do everything the correct way when it is done first. Make sure you have enough fuel, and you may be okay. Turbos are tricky and they always tend to have problems but how can you hate them they are soooo cool.

 

so would u say it would be worth it or would be spending all ur time fixing the car after assuming everything was done right?

 

If you do everything right reliability will be fine. I know lots of people who are turbo who are fine. But the doing everything right is much much easier said than done.

If you aren't willing to put in the work don't go turbo.

i dont think you will have any problems. If your not going to crazy boost your car and your running a good fuel management then you will be fine. I had 96k miles on my car when i slapped the turbo on. I drive 80 miles a day from work and to school. Havent had an "Major" problems. Little things may happen but those are usually caused by not doing something u were suppose to do. If u want to turbo it just make sure you do it right from the start and dont rush things.

Just think though. There is no way that it could be MORE reliable with turbo...

but if you have a potential problem with your stock gsr, and you go install a turbo, maybe you find something wrong that would have failed in the future if you remained stock.


this is a pretty ridiculous argument (like horsepower makes your car accelerate - ha!) and i cant think of anything that you would find out that was messed up on the car that the turbo would point out...

 

I'm just saying that you can be a crazy riceboy in a stock gsr all day revving on unsuspecting camry drivers and you'll never crack a ring land no matter how hard you try.

But give yourself a turbo........

Well after you turbo your car it's pretty heavily modified. Attention to detail will go the farthest to prevent reliability problems. My car has been turboed over 6 years now and I have had a few problems along the way. Whenever I encountered a problem area I gave it plenty of attention and did the best job I could to make sure that area would never be a problem again. Now I just enjoy the ride.

 

I hope you guys noticed that this post is like 3 years old....just my $.02 But on the serious note. A turbocharged Honda is NOT as reliable as most people say it is. I, in fact, know this personally because I had my EG-t for over 2 years and **** would break every now and then. No, I don't cut corners or have crap products such as SSAutoshit stuff. My car had engine management (Hondata) and was checked by me on a daily basis. In my opinion, those who don't have problems with their turbocharged Hondas are either lying or they hardly drive the car. I had no choice but to drive my car since I only had one means of transportation. HONDAS WERE NEVER MEANT TO BE TURBOCHARGED.

 

It's funny when you see threads bumped that you posted in... but you don't remember posting in them.

 

I run 15psi all day on my daily driver and have no problems, just don't try to race everyone you see on the road.

Yea, we all get old ,at times.



MORE POWER = MORE MAINTNENCE*

 

If properly built, and tuned. The motor will last awhile. I ran my last boosted motor for a couple of years. It will still running great when I pulled it out. I just went with a bigger motor now.

 

drive it carefully and dont get into boost very much and you wont have a problem as long as everything is set up correctly. save your motor, dont do random pointless highway runs, and dont take it to redline on a regular basis. if you run 6-8 psi on a stock bottom end you will be fine for a while, just always have a backup plan (ie a spare motor) and some spare cash just in case you do have a problem. just my 2 pennies.
