excessively high idle on cold start
so i go out to start my car after work its 24 degrees outside and the car rev's to 4000rpm and holds there ....by the time i got it home idle is 2200rpm ....this morning same thing ....no cel ....is this the fitv or the iac?
That's an Idle Air Control Valve. A FITV is mechanical and could never cause a bouncing idle. Only the IACV could cause this due to it being electronically controlled. A FITV has a "thermostat" style plunger that closes off a vacuum port as it heats up. Since it is self adjusting it tends to change position with climate. Sometimes it gets so far out of adjustment that it can't compensate so you are left with an internal vacuum leak even after it "fully closes". This was only utilized on older technology until they started using only the IACV for cold starts (obviously monitoring the CTS, IAT, ect).
