Icon6 Proportioning Valve Discontinued

My dual proportioning valve (46210-SJ4-Q02) started leaking so I began looking for a replacement... Looks like it's discontinued and there isn't a refurbished replacement. I also tried some shops that rebuild them on the spot but they said that the "cups" are no longer sold so they couldn't rebuild it either.

I did however find one at the local junk yard, but I'm just worried that the brass fittings the brake lines mate against will not seal properly since they already have impressions made in them from the original lines.

Just in case the junk yard one fails, what has everyone else done?
This is for a 90 Civic EX.

Can I just use a proportional valve from a 92-95 ex? They look the same externally but the part number and mounting bracket is different.

Do you have 4wheel disc brakes?

i'm wondering what the ratio of the 'proportioning' valve is. There's a guy selling 40/40s around here, I can get you in touch with him if that's what you need.

Unless they have crud inside, junkyard prop valves are fine for the most part.

I installed the junk yard part, filled the brake fluid resevouir and it leaks out of the flare nuts. By gravity. This is after about a week of letting it sit because I don't have the time to bleed the brakes right now.

I didn't use any loctite or whatever honda uses (that yellow stuff), but is still shouldn't leak by means of gravity right.

Now I'm wondering if I can go ahead and use the 92- 95 Civic PV and keep the rear brake system stock. I use this car as a daily and drive my kids in it so I want to make sure it's a safe option.

Yellow stuff isn't a sealant AFAIK.
The "flare" of the flare nut is what seals.
Maybe it's not tightened down properly or the flare is damaged?

Maybe the flares dont match...i had a problem with my fuel lines(flare nut aswell) when i built my 88 with all the 91 stuff from my wrecked Si, the 88 hard lines didnt seal where it met the rubber portion going to the tank, only problem i had when starting it the first time was this fuel leak...

I dont know if the flares your dealing with on your brake lines vary between years but it would be something to check.

Very possible they don't match. I have a 90 and the part i bought from the junk yard was a 91.

I hope I didn't break the SS lines. How much should I tighten the flare nuts? Till they stop?

thread them till they stop, then snug them with a flar nut wrench if possible, they only way to ensure you dont strip the hex nut.

doesnt have to be very tight, but snug.

if it was leaking from the 2 halfs it is possible to replace that center o ring for the fix. i have seen this done before. if not then a replacement is needed. and yes junkyards are the only way to go since honda discontinued them. i have one in my bay right now that is leaking

I've not heard a single person who bought one of my 4040 prop valves complain about a leak in the fitting. But I don't loosen the fitting either, I just cut off the lines before the fitting.

Its 4040, not 40/40. Its not a ratio.

Looks like i was just un-lucky with that PV. I found another 3540 and it works just fine. No leaks or anything.

My proportioning valve was leaking from the weep hole. I suspect the root cause was wear on the internal piston.

Double flare lines may be to blame for leaks. The yellow stuff is a manufacturers mark that says 'this item was tightened and when disturbed must be replaced'. The flare at the end of the line is what seals the connection and is a CRUSH FIT. Once that flare has been crushed down a time or two there is really no option except to replace the line.
