Just curious to know if anyone has heard of ditching the R18 platform for a b18c type r motor? i pretty much love the type r motor and i want it to be inside my new civic. kinda wished i woulda been a cheapass and got something from the 90s.... thats what i get for buying new/used eh? haha

i think it would be a super bad idea to put a motor with less torque than a blender into a car that weights more than a prelude

also with all the work that would have to be involved you would be better off going with the K

hop off the hype-r bandwagon and stick with the motor that works with your gen civic

 

Yo man the k is just the new and improved b series,if you want a swap get a k20/k24 swap the new b20v

 

lmao aww cmon the b18c type r is friggin awesome. 200 HP in a 1.8?? heeeellll yeah! but i kinda agree with that it has low torque. and my damn civic does not weigh more than a prelude it weighs about 2700 pounds with me in it lol. thanks guys you just opened a whole new world of options for me.... now im... not better off hahaa. the k20 is a pretty nice engine platform though... thanks guys i got about 6 more months of deployment to completely decide on what im gonna do. keep the tips comming. i can use all the ideas i can get, im pretty much stuck with the civic lx though unless i find an EG for sale THANKS!

 

Well your only choice really is a K so I'd start researching all about those engines

 

yeah i have i checked ebay out and found a JDM rsx K with 220 HP and everything included for about $5500 and im thinking ill give the damn single cam to my girfriend and get me a EG and doing a B swap or something. the R18 isnt BAD its just new. thanks guys

The K is leaps and bounds compared to the B. It is worth it.

K20 swap for sure. I went from American muscle to hondas. I absolutely love the "ummph" in the k20z3.

i thought i read too that its a law that you can't have older motors in newer cars? don't know just heard! haha

 

^^ many states say that in order for a swap to be legal, it must be of the same year as the chassis or newer, and yes although a b18c-r is a great swap in say an ef,eg,ek chassis, you would be better off turbo charging the current sohc than wasting your time on a b series swap on that fa chassis

 

It is not a state law but a federal law due to emission regulations!!!

 

go for an 8th gen type r motor or mugen si motor..

 

also for selling purposes im guessing.. so you cant have a body with 40,000 km on it and an engine with say 300,000km and tell them its only 40k.. law might have something to do with protecting buyers also..

I'm pretty sure it's not a federal law. I know someone with a '97 motor in a '98 car, no issues with the law here. He's been driving the car like that for 4-5 years.

 

all i gotta say is swapping a b18c type r into an 8th gen is a stupid idea
