Default Thoughts on different harness brands and age.

Will try to keep this thread on topic and informative.

Car:98 type r, rarely street driven mostly to and from track for DE2--> DE3
Setup: Autopower 4 point roll bar, Momo FIA seats, buddy club rails for the time being(then PCI bling). I'm in need of harnesses, trying to decided between some new Gforce latches (are not FIA approved) or some used Momo/Teamtech/Scroth camlocks that are FIA aprroved but will expire in the next year. Why these options? These are in my price range, as I'm a student and only track a few times a year.

I realize this is not required for DE so let's not bring that up. Looking for what your thoughts are on which is the safer/best option. Thanks for the advice hopefully this will be helpful to others in the future.

I know M&R belts can be re-certified after the two year period so you might want to consider them. Re-certification is much cheaper than buying new belts. If you have absolutely no intention of running with an organization that certified and unexpired belts are required then I would ignore the expiration date all together. I use a set of sparco camlocks that expired back in 2006 in my street car with no worries at all. That whole every two year sfi replacement thing is just politics in my opinion. Why you might ask? Because I've been getting the same M&R belts recertified for the past 6 years with no problems what so ever.

The expriation date doesnt matter for you and what you are doing.
Buy what ever is in your budget but always look to get the best you can for the money you have.

Thanks for that, exactly what I am trying to accomplish. I felt that a used FiA harness that has never been in an accident and is not frayed/worn, would have more accountability than a harness that is new, cheap, and is used for looks.

There is nothing wrong with Gforce belts.
I know plenty of people who use them.

The only real bling status harness' that come to mind are takata and status racing. The only reason I have sparcos is because they came very cheap from a friend. Had that not happened I would have probably bought a set from Scroth, g-force, or Luke. All great options in my opinion.

Essex, not sure if there was a communication failure somewhere but I never stard Gforce was junk. I just prefer FIA certification. I see no reason not get it when it can be the same price as something that does not have it.

But to answer explicitly yes, I know a ton of people who have gforce harness for looks. Maybe the phrase "know" is strong, more like I have seen. I live less than 15mins from the NSS, so I will attend IA for a few good laughs.

Gforce,Simpson,Crow,Leaf etc These are quality belts in racecars everywhere and just because they are not FIA approved does not mean they are any less safer.

Sad how few responses this thread gets in comparison to the thread referencing weld in verse bolt in cages. Humerous that the majority of the post in this one are "argumentative" in nature instead of informative. I find it interesting that the common theme for people is to scan threads, see if they can find something to "debate" if so they must post and check back so they can repost, however if there is not a heated issue going it will get completely ignored more often than not.

there isnt much left to say on this thread.
You asked a question...
It was answered. one lingering question as to one companies validity, which was then rebuked and people who knew more about them posted...
Not much more to post unless you want to start another asking what brand is better than another, which by the way has been done before.

I think you got your answer?

Lately the mods havent been policing the posts and they are getting rundundant and silly, hence the bickering.
Then we have the young ones who know it all,but ask all the same redundant questions too.
Nope not much meat on this one open and closed.
I hear your concern though.

Personally I much prefer cam-lock. I had a set of Crow 5-pt, with a hookup, it costed me about $100 several years ago. They're certified and I think it was a great deal. If you're interested, let me know and I will get you in touch with the person who got them for me.

Thanks Wai, let me see where I'm at I'm a few weeks and I will get back to you.

Dirty, I appreciated your response greatly and your right it did answer my question. I did not expect my question to spark a massive conversation or have 100 replies. Just you can't positive conversation going these days. My comments where more of a rambling moment than anything.

Everyone knows everything and nobody wants to be wrong.
Also you cant tell a persons true attitude via posts anyway.
Just like you cant tell in a chat session.

My honest opinion people look at avatars and judge people based on them.
