Default another Y8 Idle issue

Ok, i typically dont make threads that have been beaten to death, but my "mint daily driver" drives worse than my weekend car.

Got a 00 EX. Got it for cheap because it was in need of a head gasket. I drive it for 200 miles to confirm the problem, and the car needed a HG.

Replace the HG, water pump, plugs, air filter, and oil.

Before the HG, the car would have a high idle. No CELS. After the HG the idle is higher and about a day after, it begins to surge. So i grab some carb cleaner and check for external leaks. None. Replace TB gasket and clean IAC. Nothing. I read in the receipts i got with the car and the engine has been replaced. When they did the engine, they replaced the IM gasket, along with other parts. I did not touch the IM when doing the HG.

So after all that, im driving the car and CEL pops on. Code 14 and code 67. I realize code 67 is a cat, and ill deal with that after i trace the idle problem.

So now the car has a 15-2000 surge, then it goes to a 1700rpm fast surge.

So i plug the FITV (cold start valve) and its now steady at 11-1200 after resetting the ECU.

Any suggestions?

How do you have a FITV on a Y8? I don't.

I think only the 99 and 00's had the FIV valve.

Do you know if the engine is for a 99 or 00, you didn't get a y8 for a 96 to 98 by any chance?

just went and plugged the IAC hole in the TB, and it idled perfect.

I would assume thats a clear indicator that the IAC is at fault.

Does anyone else know what other IACs are compatible with the y8?

I know when people replace 99 TB on 96 - 98 they plug it. Also for mini me conversations.

Have you tried to clean the IACV?

Ive been checking for vacuum leaks aalmost every day. Injector bases are good, top of the IM flange, map, TPS, i cant find one.

What effect would a clogged PCV have?

Did you resurface the head?

Also, depending on mileage sometimes a new headgasket raises compression which can screw things up if the rest of the engine is original.

i did not resurface the head, as i did not think it was necessary. Can a leaking HG cause these symptoms?

It could, almost like symptoms of a bad headgasket, car runs rough etc.

Esp if it was warped and overheated, at least you could of used a straight edge and feeler gauge.

Try adjusting the idle speed. See FAQs sticky for diagram.

Also bleed the cooling system and check the ECT sensor and TPS.

cheap and best way to check for a vacuum leak. Most difficult part is getting a cigar smoker.

How can i check the ign timing when it surges/idles high? When i intially did the HG, i marked the dizzy, and then tryed to shoot it after. It was close, but also idling high.

Check the mechanical timing, jump the service connector, and use a timing gun.
