Default Daily driver turbo project

EK build thread turbo project.

Car was a one owner virgin stock car. It's my daily driver and after a few mods it turned into a project lol.

plans:
-D16 Turbo setup 200+whp
-bucket seats w/gutted rear & race roll bar
-full coilover suspension, F & R camber kit

A few days after I bought her. Bought some SI wheels for it originally.

Decided to sell the SI wheels and get Drags. I also updated the headlights and added a mugen front lip and type r rear lip for cosmetic apeal.

KYB AGX's and ground control coilovers. 300lb / F and 150lb R rates. I didn't want the car to be super stiff since its my DD. They are great!

F/R camber kit, Subframe brace and control arms

New brembo rotors and Hawk pads. Ill be doing the rear conversion kit in the spring time.

95 Ex tranny rebuilt with new seals and syncros and a 4.9 OBX final drive. Exedy stage 1 race clutch - good for 220ft lbs of tq

Blox intake

OBX twinloop and a full 2.25" full exhaust with high flow cat.

Just decided clean up the engine bay

I gotta say with the 4.9 obx final drive and everything else this motor woke up! The blox mainifold and exhaust def helped the top end of the motor. I raced my friends B20 swap and was pretty much side by site

Bride seats

Turbo Goodies
-P28 ecu with a chip set

id stay away form ebay turbo kit the seals will not last and ur 200hp goal will be back at 100hp again. if u buy a reliable turbo that will hold up it will be worth the money. u can buy a new gt28r from a nissan silvia s15 and have a ball bearing turbo for 700. then buy cheap ebay piping thats ok. then buy a nice turbo manifold u dont want anything cracking as well that will also ruin ur turbo set up and create turbo lag and poor performance. so far so good id hate to see this build turn for the worst just from buying a ebay turbo kit.

It just got my really curious about trying it because I heard of a handful of people running ebay turbo kits on low to med boost and have had no issues.

Nice and clean. How does the OBX twin loop sound? Also, I'm very interested in the headlights. They look like they fit really well, is the light output good? Where did you get em? Want.

The OBX muffler looks nice but I really dont like it. From 2,500-3000k it has a tin can sound to it. Once it started breaking in it got a bit louder and I also noticed it started doing the tin can sound at 4-5k as well. So Ill be taking it off soon. Id like a stock looking muffler that flows nice but is quite. So i am searching for something.

The headlights are just a ebay but surprisingly nice quality! it was $90 shipped i believe. the output was the same as the stock oem headlights.

I was thinking about that same exhaust, it looks good, and looks like it would be good quality, but I had a gut feeling. lol Seems to me my gut was right. Everyone here likes the Apexi WS2. That may fit the bill better.

Thanks for the info on the lights. I'm gonna pick a set up soon. Great find, I'll be back to check out the updates. Good luck.

This is an alternative to the WS2, it's a replica. Search for it on here. You can find a better deal on it as well.

you can try it. ive always know u will be upgrading the kit sooner or later. if running a ebay turbo id run a oil restrictor for the turbo to save the seals. the turbo manifolds are usally cheap and crack. the wastegates are also junk and will need replaced sooner or later. yes they work but they wont last long. u spend 1200-1500 u can have a good reliable turbo kit that wont need redone after a few months. when its all said and done u will have that int he kit after u fix everything that breaks

Finally got the Brides installed. Also picked up a SI cluster w/ carbon face for dirt cheap on craigslist. Did the led mod on the cluster and it came out pretty nice. Also installed the Spoon rear duck bill as well and it looks great!

I plan to get a EP3 steering wheel. There oem and look pretty nice imo. I found one for $170.

Here is what the interior currently looks like.

I decided to paint the door trim, door handle and also ground effects the same color. It looks so much cleaner! Also installed the Spoon duck bill

Before painted trim and after

I found this turbo kit which looks legit. Anyone know about this company?

They supply Turbonetics and tail products in there kit. They also warranty there other stuff ( cast mainifold, intercooler etc ). For $1700 I figured that's not too bad.

I was thinking of getting a T3 Super 60 with a .48 trim. For my goals a T3/T4 woudlnt make sense. Right now my goal is 210-230whp. Down the road Id like to shoot for 250-280whp.

looks like a ebay turbo kit. If I learned anything from modifying cars is to stay away from ebay knock off ****.
edit: how are you planning on making 230 hp? what setups? Just to let you know an ebay kit(assuming that it is) probably wont make a 230hp power goal.

My setup will be:
-P28 ecu
-walbro 255 pump
-440cc DSM injectors
-Turbonetics T3 Super 60 trim /.48 turbine ( from the treadstone turbo kit I plan to get )
-APR studs
-aftermarket radator

Id like to achieve 200-210whp. Not really sure of the limits of the D16 but I read 200whp is safe with stock internals? Am I correct?

From what I read this kit comes with a real Turbonetics turbo, tail wastegate and a choice of major brand name bovs of my choice. All have a 1yr warranty. The turbo cast mainifold, IC piping and IC are from Treadstone which also have a 1yr warranty. The mainifold has a lifetime warranty against cracking. I could be wrong but I though this seemed to be a legit kit?

Have you decided on an exhaust yet? Personally, I have a Thrush Turbo muffler ($40 at your local Advance Auto) on 2.5" ebay piping, and it's great. Sounds almost stock, which is huge in my area since the laws read that exhaust must be "OEM or equivalent", with no sound limit. It also flows fairly well.

Im about to pick up some DSM 440cc injectors form a buddy. 2 sets for $60 in good working condition. These should be more then enough for 200-210whp correct? And possibly 250+whp down the road?

I am sticking with my current 2.25" catback. As for the muffler I want to get something else the tiwn loop has a raspy sound from 2-3k.

On a side not I'm really contemplating on weather or not I should turbo this or drop in a LS and turbo that :/

The turbo will act as a muffler and quiet it down some.

A T3/T4 is a good turbo. A Super 60 isn't matched well if I recall correctly. Get a good quality turbo, a used Tial wastegate, a DSM 1G BOV, good engine management, DSM 440cc injectors, and you can cheap out on most of the rest. You can get a used T3/T4 and rebuild it cheaper than buying a new turbo. I bought all the stuff to build a new T3/T4 and then pieced a new GT3071R together for like $900 though.
