What can be done to improve our heaters?
I'm wanting more from my heater. it puts out hot air, but not enough. it's never too hot. three cars i've been in alot do this, my sisters 96 accord (lx, bone stock, f22 non vtec), my friends 90 turbo laser and my moms 06 ford escape. these three cars get so hot heat wise you actually have to turn the heater down or it gets uncomfortable, almost burning.
things i have done are:
new full sized radiator from a local parts store,
flushed the core both ways,
all hoses are the correct molded fit
oem honda thermostat
oem water pump
drained my cooling system and replaced it with prestone 50/50
bled the cooling system for hours, making sure there's no air bubbles in the system.
short of sticking card board in front of my radiator, is there anything else i can do? i want my heater to cook me out, which it really only does in the summer.

Mine works great, but no doubt you are in a colder climate. You can get a higher temp thermostat, or cover half the radiator with cardboard. I know it's not the answer you want, but if it's really cold outside it's the only thing that works. Hence why the truckers cover up their front ends, nothing wrong with the heater just too cold outside. I had to do this when I lived in NY, just slid a piece behind the T-bar.
alright i'll give it a try. i just don't want temps to start creeping as i get on it, she does see vtec several times a day
All my Hondas roast me out. We always joke about "Not being able to beat Honda heat". If you have done all that then most likely your heater core has build up and needs replaced. As much as it stinks, that's the only real answer aside from making the engine run hotter. To me this isn't an acceptable alternative. Where I live, it gets down to -10-20* on occasion, but I never have a problem with warm heat; just takes forever to get warm. Only when it starts hitting below 0* do I consider putting cardboard in front of the radiator. The choice is yours!!!

i'd rather replace the heater core than a head gasket... already done far to many of those on various motors i've owned.
i figured flushing it would have cleaned it out, but one of the previous owners did use stop leak in my car at one point... perhaps that's what the problem is *shrugs*

If you know the previous owner used stop leak, you should probably just go ahead and change the heater core. It's probably partially obstructed allowing little flow as well as built up with gunk and not allowing proper heat exchange.
my heaters on all my ef's will make toes sweat.
Truly burn you out of your shoes.
I've always flushed the system and also reverse flushed them (making the water flow the opposite direction) I get more crap out of the heater core that way.
Once I'm done with that I go through getting all the crap out of the duct work.
I pull the dash, tape up the rubber joints so they don't leak. get all the crap out of the ac evaporator if there is one. Basically good blow out of leaves and caked on crap.
Then clean out the blower assembly.
Then nice and toasty.
Takes about a half day to accomplish this but it is work the effort.

Yeah that Stop leak will get all those little passages gunked up. I would replace the core and see if that works. I would think that it would. Flushing doesnt always get it out

I can cook meat on my heater. what i did was i took one of the smaller hot hoses coming out of the engine. the hoses that take coolant from the engine and bring it back to the lower radiator hose are hotter earlier and get slightly hotter since their coolant has moved through the engine block already.
