Its been a good while since I been on and hope this is the right place for the thread (apologizes if it isn't).

I know its probably been asked several times but i cant really find the info im looking for. I just bought a 92 civic hatch cx but the motor is going to have to be swapped as the D15B8 is old and fibble. Im really wanting to build a stock B20B long block with a stock B16A head (no major modifications as i only want a weekend bruiser)

MY QUESTION: Will a B20B block and a B16A head be a fairly good combo? I already know to stay out of the extreme rpm bands as the B20 is not designed for that. Will The B20/B16 stand against 8lbs of boost if not abused often? What the best trans to run? ECU?

Several people ask why i wanna stay with stock internals. Its cause its not gonna be a track car, just something to cruise around in and be a lil different. There are no B20 swapped cars around here and i like to be kinda original....(and we have some punka** kids who need to be taught a lesson (hints the abused but not to often).

On what turbo? 8lbs doesn't tell me anything? There's nothing to be done in Civic that is different.

 

Im hoping to save up for Turbonetics or Greedy Street Kit? Would the be B20/B16 be a good combo, and everything fits nicely? Im gonna use Hasport mounts. Im not looking for hp/torque numbers as i already know every build is different. Just want to make sure the combo has good drivability.

 

Turbo most likely be T3/T4 60 trim.

 

I wouldn't boost any unsleeved B20 block.

Get a different B-series block. I don't know why you're stuck on a B20 and boost. Check the Forced Induction section for build threads.

 

no particular reason for the b20 or the boost except im tired of hearing about b16 swapped EGs around here where i live. lol

 

Between you and me. Just stick to what works. When you try and stray from teh beaten path you're asking for hardship.

In the Forced Induction forum they'll tell you B20's are crap for boosting.

 

Just get a b16 or b18(gsr) - and slap a nice conservative kit on it. t3/t4 on 5-8lbs plan to make around 200-250whp. Thats plenty of power for what it looks like you are wanting. You wont have to do any internal mods except for maybe ARP headstuds. and dont forget a good tune.

Reliable. Quick. Simple.

Just because a lot of ppl do b16 and gsr doesn't mean you have to go a different route. Their can be plenty of different variables in setup from the next guy that has a boosted B series....

Grumblemarc - Thanks for the advice and link. Looks like a naturally aspirated B20/B16 combo makes very good power (which is nice to know).

Hannslebo - Ive not given up the idea of an LS/Vtec swap yet. Just checking out my options for now. would like to get in the 225whp range and i think both would achieve this fairly easy.

But which is the most cost effective?
