Seeking Help
Im unfortunatly new to this Forum but tend to read up and I myself now am due for some of you honda lovers to share some imspiration and guidence in my FIRST project. My friend had a 2000 Honda Civic ex, 120 miles.. Automatic transmission with a lovely D16y8. Since he didnt take much care of it the motor ended up getting a valve tap.. and INSISTED on contining to drive with..Hence you know where that ended up going. Headgasket blew, oil leaks out the butt. After he replaced that he offered me it for 650... I said "oh hell it'll make a good project" Yeah.. Well now Im off body work and Iv been doing reasearch to plan what I want to do to it. I have Big Plans that can be done over time, but not so much pocket(saving as we speak). My First goal Is to either replace this engine and keep it Automatic(sell it), or Replace the engine and do a Manual Conversion, slamm it, turbo ect!!
Some few questions..
1: Who should I go to have this done?/Speak too.
2: And what should I look for while going through with this?
3: Its alot of labor, how much $$$
4: Is it better if I do it myself?(aka Frans and booooks)
FYI: I Have talked to some mechanics over the phone and they have told me "its alot of refrabrication and its a process" And how they wouldnt have enough time to pull it off... Well then I need to find a better mechanic and this is why I have posted.
Thanks for reading; you guys are awesome.

What requires refabrication? Don't use these people they are full of BS.
1. How should we know? Don't even have a clue where you live?
2. Like what? Do you have specific concerns?
3. Again. Find a shop and ask. Find a few shops and compare estimates. Don't ask people that don't work on Hondas. We don't even know what part of the world you're in.
4. Always. But depends on your level of skill and whether or not you like to do things right or cut corners.
Doesn't sound like you've done a lot of real hardcore research. My first suggestion is to read up on some links inteh FAQs.

Yeah I hear that, Iv been getting to much BS.
I live In Doylestown, PA. Only place I know local is AWE tuning but they specialize in Vw, Audi etc.
My Trouble is just finding the right person, because so far I havent come accross anyone who can do this work. I think I could pull this off with more Hardcore reasearch more saving and a few extra hands. But Till then im going to be doing alot more reading.

im kinda in the same boat as you. i just got a 2000 ex that a friend rolled for 300. i knew it was worth close to that in scrap and it still drove around when i bought it. just no windows and the roof was caved a little. i got it to tinker with and to learn on (getting ready to pull engine out) knowing if i messed up that i still could get my money back between tires seats other parts and scrap. with you only paying that much the car look at it as a learning experience and if it works out then thats great, if not you wont really lose money on it and you will have learned priceless knowledge and you can try another project. my 2 cents is do it your self. plus labor is expensive.
