hey guys, so i just got my honda a few months ago and the check engine light came on, however i passed smog with it on. a couple days later it starts shaking, and now its violently shaking when i brake at a stop sign or stop light. doesnt matter how fast im going. it feels like someones pushing on it when im braking. i know my brake pads are going out cause it makes noises when i brake. i bought new ones but havent replaced them yet. my engine also creates an aroma when it stops. can it be my rotor?

 

Jump the service connector in the passenger side kick panel and get that code. Otherwise severe shaking at stops can be caused by bad motor mounts, or your idle is too low. I would clean the screen of the iacv (if you haven't done it yet). Also replace those brake pads asap, before it comes loose and lodges itself between the rotor and caliper. Also what smell are you getting from the engine? Does it smell sweet? (coolant), pop the hood and look for leaks (the heater core hoses, or the small hoses that go behind the intake manifold are often overlooked)
