Default which balance shafts to use?

Building a H22A4 with 97mm F23 crank, F23 rods, H22 pistons. This is a beta motor to use while getting the IM, exhaust, and computer stuff down. Then I'm planning on building my other H22a4 with better internals and built head.

Question: What to do with the balance shafts? Delete them, cut the belt, use H22 shafts, or Use F23 shafts? Is there even a difference between the balance shafts?

With the block /head itself I'm only at about $900, the block was previouly rebuilt with 3 angle valve job, low mileage internals, and checked for imperfections. I'll have the cost of the bearings, thicker headgasket, and machine work still and I am trying to keep the costs down on what will ultimately be a temporary motor.

The oil squirters are also removed at this point(I'm still trying to adjust them to fit but It's not looking good.) and the motor will see ocassional street use with a couple drag racing days at test and tune. (normally only run 3-4 times a night) I've ordered Explicit Speed engine Mounts so chasis vibrations will be some concern, but I can always bump up the idle for that too. (I'm running filled mounts now and the only vibrations I notice are at Idle.)

I have H22, H23, and F23 crank pulleys plus an Unorthodox Pulley, and I plan on having which ever I choose balanced with the internals.

Suggestions? Comments? Flamming?

-Thx Nathan

If you have the engine apart, delete them, if not, just don't put a belt on.

Personally, I would say delete them properly, and by blocking the oil passages, you will gain oil pressure to your crankshaft, where it is needed most. Same thing with deleting the squirters and plugging the hole properly.

I would say delete them with something like the Kaizenspeed kit.

delete them. the kit's not expensive there's even a few DIY's if you do wanna be cheap about it. It's proven gain and like snobord said it sends more oil pressure to the crank where it's needed. And it's not hard at all.

Delete, engine has a noticeable bit more response without them.

Well looks like everyone is thinking the same way I am, and the engine is apart right now and will be going off to the machine shop after the new year. Emailed Rosko to see if he still offeres his version of the kit.

Thanks, Nathan
