My Quest for 500whp on a Stock Sleeve / Stock Bore B16A and 93 octane
Hey guys,
Figured I'd share a couple pics / comments on my setup in my eg hatch and see what you guys think. The car has come a long way since I got it in June of this year. Prior to my new turbo setup, the car had a full-race ramhorn and a 6262 with the small "e" cover. Here are some specs on what the car was like a few months ago, and the power that the car made:
B16A (Stock Sleeve / Stock Bore)
JE 9.0:1 Pistons
Eagle Rods
Stock Bore Head
Crower Valvetrain
ITR Cams
Full Race Ramhorn
Full Race Backdoor Intercooler / 2.5" Piping
Full Race Downpipe
6262 with small "e" cover
ID 1000s
Walbro 255
ITR LSD Trans
Comp Stage 5 Clutch
Hondata S300
Here are some pics:

The care made 422 wheel on 93 octane and 17/18lbs on this setup (w/out a much needed catch can setup, car had absolutely no ventilation):

Now, I am on my quest to 500 wheel on pump gas. What I have changed since the last setup:
Synapse v-band inlet top-mount manifold
Precision 6266 w/ v-band inlet .82 housing and anti-surge ported comp. cover
Custom downpipe / charge piping
Go-Autoworks catch can setup w/ two 10ans off the front of the valve cover
Battery relocated to rear w/ 0 gauge wiring
Same motor setup

The boost will be turned up a little, and the car will be tuned before long! Wish me luck.
Toby

First thing I wanna say is your setup is clean and tasteful. Good work!
Next thing I wanted to ask is where did you get that exhaust housing that is vband'd at the manifold? Did you buy it from precision like that? That is sweet! I didn't even know they offered that... Do you have any idea if they offer that housing for a 6262 or is it only for the 66mm exhaust wheel size housings?
Also, though I think your new turbo setup is freakin awesome I gotta ask a question. Did you do all that switching up just for 500whp? Or was there some other influence? I only ask because your 6262 and ramhorn would have been fine to make that power.
I am currently running a stock sleeve GSR on a ramhorn (not full-race) and a 6262SP. We made 538whp last season @ 24.5 psi on E85 and a cheap intercooler. Going back for more this season aiming for 600+ same setup better intercooler...
Just some food for thought.

cheap cooler isnt an issue ive made 650 on my little cx racing cooler so thats fine
now i wanna ask why in the workd do you want to subject that sexy *** build(clean) to the harshness of pump gas??? just to say you did it because for that power i would go with some e85 or 105 at least.

I ordered my 6266 through them. And yes, there was somewhat of an influence to put the new setup on it. For one, I had the bungs welded on the front of the valve cover, and, when it was time to put it on, the fittings were right on top of the ramhorn, and it would not seal. Also, I wasn't completely satisfied with the "e" cover, and I wanted to get the bigger, antisurge ported compressor cover. Furthermore, I love v-band inlet setups and top-mounts. I just figured hell with it, and I upgraded my setup. We will see how it does!

Yeah, the straw that broke the camel's back was the bung clearance w/ the ramhorn (after I already had the valve cover welded up). Also, since I love these setups and had the money to burn, I just upgraded.

well with that power the use of pump gas (93) is risky with det man, and would hate to see a nice build go to **** chasing them numbers
just do 2 seperate tunes man one for 93 around 400
and one for e85 for racing
unless your entire thought is to street race this car wich would end up destryoing it anyways

^ i'm in the same boat. building around pump gas because of whats available in my area and how much i drive.
nice setup and car , looks solid and fun

Thanks man, I have contemplated e85 (and I would do it if we had a station here in Chambersburg), although the closest station is in Carlisle, which is about 30 miles away. Considering this car is driven a lot (it isn't a garage queen), I do not want to deal with the hassle acquiring the e85 from a distance. If I decide to throw in a sleeved shortblock / upgrade the fuel system, I am sure, at this time, I will say hell with it, and begin to use e85.

what backhousing did you have on your 6262e? ive got the same turbo and am debating going to the 6266 as well with a .82 backhousing.
how laggy does the 66 feel opposed to the 62?

Im suprised I havent seen this car.. Im in the town next to you. Yeah the last e85 station around here was just taken out a few years ago. I my self will be running E85 but I order a drum of it.
Thanks guys. It will be a 93 tune by Kerr @ Innovative. I had a .82 housing on the 6262e as well. Honestly, both turbos seem to be fairly close. I do not have any numbers to give you, though. Have to remember that this time around, with these new turbos, precision shaved a bunch of material off of the turbine wheels. Also, this setup is v-band whereas the other was t3. Both are fairly laggy on the B16.

Thanks, Derek. Everything seems kosher with this shortblock after testing. I will most likely run it, and I will try to meet my goal on the stock sleeves before upgrading to a sleeved block. Might do an upgrade on the fuel pump to a 400 unit, as it will be done eventually anyways, and just to have the extra pump if I need it. Have a few things to get sorted out, and then I will get ahold of you guys!
Maybe not a 400, but a larger pump, nonetheless, will be necessary down the road, as well as a different regulator setup and larger injectors.
Hey, thanks a lot. Yes, they do offer the 6262 with a v-band inlet exhaust housing. The housing is an option from Precision (manufactered by them). Here is a link:
