Default ecu/harness issue

hello HT.
im a noob to the site.
i recently bought a 96 civic ex coupe w/ 5spd tranny. the previous owner had replaced the d16y8 motor with the y7. i know the difference between the y7 and y8 are the heads. y8 being vtec and y7 non. well, heres my issue. i noticed my CEL was on. so i plugged in my obd2 reader, but it wouldnt link up. so, my next move was to check the ecu. the ecu is a p2p from the y8. so i know this will cause idle problems,etc...also the harness has extra plugs that have nowhere to go. so, im guessin they were for the vtec solenoid and something else. well heres my question, if i replace the p2p ecu with the p2e ecu and put a y8 intake manifold on, would this help with the CEL? my county requires emissions so i really want to resolve this issue asap. please leave your thoughts and suggestions. they will be highly appreciated.

i would pull the codes first by jumping the connector above the ecu.

The real differences are VTEC solenoid and pressure switch (2 connectors by the distributor), knock sensor (back of the block), and the IACV (y7 is 3 wire, y8 is 2 wire). Your going to need the P2E and a Y7 throttle body with the 3 wire IACV. You'll need to wire up the 3 wire using 2 of the wires from the IACV wiring you have and add the 3rd wire to the ECU.

whoa. now im confused lol. i was told by a local performance shop that i had to have the p2e and y8 mani w/ throttle body. wish there was a picture that illustrates all of this haha.

ok my harness is from the y8. so my question is, is if i use the p2e and switch to a y8 intake manifold, would this fix my issue instead of my having to change the harnesS?

You can leave the harness but you'll still need a Y7 throttle body no matter what intake manifold you use because the P2E ECU will look for a 3 wire IACV.

if u have a y7 use a p2e ecu and a 3 wire iacv (y7 tb or auto y8 tb) and everything should straighten out.
