rough starts in cold weather and rough idle
2000 honda accord lx 143,xxx miles f23a4 motor 5 speed manual transmission. after it sits all night in cold weather, it starts very rough. the starter turns the motor over 2 or 3 times before it kicks on. no matter what the temperature is, it idles rough once it heats up to its regular operating temperature. any ideas?
Turning over 2 or 3 times is not bad for bitter cold weather. If the cranking is kind of slow, then its possible your battery still works, but is just not as capable of producing the cold-cranking amps necessary for easy starting in cold weather. As for the way it runs after starting, tune up is a suggestion. There was a poster here a few days ago who solved his whole problem with a new distributor cap and rotor. A fresh set of plugs never hurts, either. If starting in cold weather truly becomes a big hassle and everything else is well-tuned, the ignition module (ignitor) is a part to suspect. It's located in the distributor and is sometimes replaced separately, but more often as part of a whole new distributor.
