5w20

It says it right on the oil cap.

You can buy plugs for the trunk lid.

If she's selling the spoiler to someone, why not just swap trunk lids? That way they don't have to drill, and you don't have to drive around with plugs in the trunk lid.

you can also use 0w-20 just as well as 5w-20. its thinner at standing temperature so it lubricats the internals a lot better at startup. but its a bit more expensive. 5w-20 will do just fine if you're an average joe.

i always hear not to switch from reg to synthetic or vice versa. whats the harms of switching over to synthetic if ur car has been running with regular oil??

Any oil seal that has been using standard lubricant for an extended period of time will be altered by the sudden change to synthetic. This will cause an increase in oil burn and a decrease in performance and economy.

I always use 10w30 plus an oil stabalizer to cut down on oil burn off.

I thought that was a myth or was the case years ago. But the modern day synthetic oils can be mixed.

So if it's the sudden change that messes it up, could I gradually switch over starting by using a synt blend? Or just stick with the regular is my best bet?

Synthetic oils can be mixed with other synthetics, typically without complications. Switching from a natural oil to a synthetic (or vice-versa) is where you run in to issues with the seals. This is not a myth, in case you were wondering.

Why does it matter so much? You won't gain anything performance-wise from changing over to a synthetic blend. Especially not on a factory D17. If you were to build the engine up for a higher compression or for a turbo setup, then it'd be a wise investment to run a nicer synthetic oil. But, for the uses you will have for the stock drivetrain, there will be no tangible difference between the standard oils and synthetic.

I'm not so worried about the performance. I just want my car to last as long as I can make it, I just figure the synt is of higher quality and would extend the engine life.

To be honest, you'll be fine with a standard oil if that is what has been used in the vehicle all this time.

Not to dismiss Matt's comments or anything, but when I bought my 04 ES1 with ~180k km (~112k miles) on the odo, I switched from the previous owner's 5W20 dino oil to 5W20 synthetic, and there was a small but noticeable difference in performance, NVH, and gas mileage. The engine revs smoother and easier, the car idles smoother, morning starts were easier, and gas mileage improved very slightly (though this could well fall within the regular variable range from regular driving). I also have no leaks from the car. But on this last point, I have to emphasis that I might have been a luckier case -- a good number of people that I know discovered leaks in their cars after switching to synthetic on an older engine.

I've had a similar experience with another car that also switched from 5W20 dino oil to 5W20 synthetic, although that car was at a significantly lower mileage (15k km, tops) when the swtich took place.

For me, the biggest benefit for switching to synthetic was the extra smoothness.

As with many things, some people experience differences that are noticeable. But, there's no guarantee that he will see the same results. Also, there are quite a few risks (as noted above) to switching oil types. When I still had a D17, I did switch from conventional oil to a Mobil1 synthetic and noticed no change what so ever in engine performance or how well the engine ran. It was merely a change for ease (I had access to a lot of Mobil1 synthetic at the time, and it was cost efficient). I did the change-over at 30,000 miles.
