First time Tig welding (pics)
Machine: Miller maxstar 150
Material: 304ss tubing .060 thick
Gas: 20-25 cfh
tungsten: red
filler rod: 316l i believe its 3/16ths
First time tig welding and i have years of experience with mig welding. I have found the weld seem to be very grey and turning the amperage down doesn't help or increasing the cfh. It seems like a heat issue to me, but as soon as i turn it down its just harder to start and maintain a puddle.
Any help would be appreciated! Critique it any way you like!
thanks

What amperage did you use? What post-flow setting? What gas lens/cup? How fast did you move?
Also I'm not sure is there really such a size for a filler - 3/16", maybe it's 1/16"? Anyway, they both are too big, try using .035-.045", you should see some gains only from that IMO.
And yeah, the bead looks great for a first timer!
Good luck

I am going to pick up some smaller filler rod and see what happens
So i am not sure the cup size on the welder currently, but i am gonna order up a bigger one possibly #10. Also the weld craft 17 torch that came with the miller maxstar does not have a gas lens so i am upgrading to a gas lens with the new cup i will give it a try.
Get Large Gas lens + #12 cup, most on here have found it the best midway, also I'm using it with good sucess.
