1997 Honda Civic Ex NOT STARTING
I have a 1997 Honda civic Ex with a bone stock D16y8. The car is getting gas, and spark. All the plugs have checked out, distributor, fuel pump, injectors, etc etc.. I have ruled out most any mechanical problems and now I am wondering if it could be a sensor?? I honestly believe it is the crank position sensor but I am not 100% and would greatly appreciate help or advice
ALSO the car was running fine right before it cut off.. It would not start back up, however it will turnover and act like it wants to start it just won't crank
Exactly what do you mean by "checked out"? What did you do exactly to "rule out" other issues? What color is the spark? Are you throwing any CELs?
It was running fine, then shut off and wouldn't start? Check the timing belt before you bend some valves
People have said the rotor screw in the distributor comes loose and their car stops running, have you checked that?

Is there a kill switch in the car or an alarm? This will make it feel like it will start but will not. I would double check voltage (14v) and that its not the starter for sure.
most any sensor that would cause the engine to not run would either control fuel or spark in some way. youve either missed something or tested something incorrectly(not being a smart ***).
The engine cranks over when you hit the key, but wont fire. you either dont have spark, fuel, compression, or timing. i assume you can check spark so I would do a compression test next to rule out mechanical issue again. if timing is off far enough to cause a no start you would probably have bent valve ie, no compression. make sure you have fuel pressure, and make sure your injectors have power at all times with the key on, and a ground pulse signal when the engine is cranking over.
