Walked out to my car today to find this...
Bastards cut the top open and stole $1, that is it! They didn't harm anything else on the car and even left my $120 sunglasses sitting on the seat! The hood was also popped open but the car is stock and nothing looked damaged there. I was careful driving it in case they put something in the oil, but it seems to be fine. I am going to drain the oil out anyway just to be sure.
My first thought was that someone stole the seats, but they were untouched. It happened at my girlfriend's higher-end apartment complex. The police said there were others in the complex who had their cars broken into as well. So, it looks like my 7-year-old car is going to get a new top, although it only has 32,000 miles and it wasn't necessary.

cars aren't safe anywhere. higher end, lower end, whatever location.
you are definitely one lucky SOB that they didn't take anything else you are aware of.

Yeah, if it was my house it would've been safe, and I guess it was my own ignorance to think it would be safe at her place just because it is a nice town and neighborhood. My old Civic Si was modded to hell and I never once had anyone break into it, no matter how crappy of area I parked it in. My plan is to keep the S2k stock so that it won't draw that kind of attention. I would almost feel better about it if they had taken the seats or something too. Based on what the cops said about the other break-ins, the thieves seemed to be after a quick buck or some electronics and weren't too concerned with the actual cars themselves.
Moral of this story is to expect that this stuff can happen to you, anytime, anyplace.

All it takes is for the next S owners who have their car broken into to catch and beat these guys to hell....then word will get around that we dont play around...
damn dude. atleast nothing else was harmed. get money from the insurance it will prolly be around a stack add another 5 bills and get a mugen replica
Yeah, the insurance company WOULD let me get a hardtop instead of fixing the soft top but I don't want to do that.
So it looks like a get a new top for my nearly 8-year-old car for the low price of my deductible: $300. I guess that isn't too bad since the car only has 32,000 miles and it will have a new top
The insurance appraiser said that he has dealt with 5 other S2ks that had the tops cut open but they all had the seats stolen and that many times the insurance company will try to total out the car if that happens because the Honda factory replacements are $2500 a pop. Is that true?
Anyway, thanks for the support, everyone! It sucks this happens to me within 3 months of finally owning my dream car, but hopefully by next weekend I'll be cruising around once again instead of driving around my P.O.S. $500 Geo Metro.
