PLEASE HELP! having problems with z6
question, im workin on an automatic EJ. i just put in a Z6
just took off the auto flywheel from the old longblock and slapped it on.
am i supposed to use new bolts for the torque converter?
is there a special flywheel for the z6? Just put the motor together
and went to start it and it sounds like the starter is barely touchin the
torque converter to start the car. like the teeth are just rubbing on eachother.
PLEASE HELP NEED A CAR TO GET TO WORk TOMORROW :[[[[[[
are the flywheels interchangeable?
from a D15b to a d16z6?

FLEX-PLATE... it's called a flex-plate...
The Flex-Plates are the same between years.
You should use new bolts but you do not have to - it's not going to cause your problem anyways.
Why exactly did you swap engines? I assume you used the torque converter from the same transmission? They are not interchangeable between years.

well, the i had a JDM D15B that the motor blew, the ej had
an auto trans, didnt change the torque converter, pulled off
the flex plate and slapped it onto the z6. how is the torque
converter not interchangeable? if it slides into the tranny.
and just bolts up to the same flexplate. I thought D series
was all the same. are the D16 and the D15 different size
flexplates? im soooo lost and i need this done. streesin the F out.

I am saying the '88-91 torque converter is not compatible with the '92-92 torque converter. Since you are using everything the same from that transmission there is no problem. As I stated before the Flex-Plates are the same '88-95 so that is not your problem. The D-series Flex-Plates are not different from D15 to D16.

As you can see all the Flex-Plates and "washers" are the same. The torque converters seem different between the ring gears. As long as you are using everything from the same transmission and just changing the engine there shouldn't be any problems. Unless you didn't line up the converter properly and something isn't right as far as alignment or depth is concerned.

so what else can it be. what if the flex plate is warped?
cant be the starter cuz i hear it cranking.
more than sure i put the flexplate the right way.
all i could think of it being is something to do with
the torque converter and the flywheel.

What side did you put the washer on: Torque Converter side or Crankshaft side?
Are you sure you engaged the torque converter in all the way?
Have you actually tried spinning the engine yet?

Proper alignment is key. Are both dowel pins in place between transmission and block? If converter was not splined into trans completely, you risk stacking the pump and destroying it. You should have had to draw the converter up to the flew plate by about a 1/8" or so. Also, always make sure that the pilot on the converter is clean as well as the pilot hole.
Yes made sure the converter was in all the way, pretty much lines up with the tranny.
you know what i mean? like sits flush with it. is it supposed to go in slightly more?
i put the washer on the converter side, thats right, right?

Bringing this back to life for the benefit of future searchers...
For this situation, as described above, the flexplate was likely on backwards (very common mistake for noobs) and pulled the torque converter out of line with the starter. Occasionally, this will work, but eventually it'll pull the tq converter away from the tranny and the car won't move.
The flexplate is like a bowl, so in those terms the base the bowl would sit on is what contacts the crank, the bowls edges then bolt to the torque converter.
Another point of confusion is where the "washer" goes. It sandwiches the flexplate with the crank. In order of assembly it goes crank, flexplate, washer, bolts, torque converter, tranny....
