Hey whats up Honda-Tech.
I'm new to the jdm world and I just bought a 91 civic hatch yesterday for 1750.
Its got its share of wear but I wanted something I could work on..
Anyways, the previous owner says the exhaust rattles a bit and that it does. When ever I'm not accelerating the exhaust makes a loud rattle and he says its due to the absence of some rubber piece? Could anybody help a noobie?

 

First you should get under the car and find out what's rattling. I've experienced in different cars that the heatshield on the cat will rattle sometimes. You can take the shield off if that's your problem. Check to make sure the exhaust pipe has the rubber mount on all the exhaust hooks. Other than that I dont know what else to tell you besides to find it yourself and see what is causing the noise.

No better way then to get down and check.

 

Sounds like one of the rubber bushings. Simple fix, though they sometimes get stuck. Use some WD-40 if they're rusted on.

 

9 out of 10 time its the heat shield from the cat. just remove that heat shield. they rust out ALL the damn time.
