Default What are the known issues with accords?

I am looking for a DD in good shape, I had a 98 LX auto from 105-135k and sold it. I was wondering if there are certain engines and or transmission combinations that are problematic or failure prone.

When looking at a used one what should I go for? Which engine and trans? It will stay stock.

Also what should I make sure is taken care of for maintenance and repairs?

HAH! That's funny. The 98-02 AT cars are the ones to avoid, hit or miss on transmissions those years.

If you are looking at older 90-97s note when the front rotors were machined/replaced and if the front wheel bearings have been replaced. If its over 150K miles and no record of wheel bearing replacement then they may be getting close to replacement time. Easiest way to tell if the bearing is worn is by looking at the inside front tire tread. If the car has been recently aligned yet every other tread block is equally scalloped the wheel bearings are worn. This would also be a good time to replace the lower ball joint if you are doing a rotor/bearing R&R.

Otherwise mechanically the 90-97 cars are pretty rock solid.

Common electrical issues would be the main relay dying. Usually this is indicated when the engine cranks but does not start. The gauges may read a little off. And the 90-93 AT cars the TCUs are known to have resistors/capacitors go bad.

^ What he said. I just bought a 2002 V6 coupe and the trans was rebuilt before I bought it. But if you keep up on all the maintenance, don't drive like an idiot or do neutral drops etc, it will last you forever. I have 206k and counting on mine and my dad's 94 ex four door has close to 300k or more, the speedometer stopped working somewhere around 230k a few years ago.
There's that one dude they call Million Mile Joe, he rolled over his miles in an Accord, I forget the year I think it was a fourth gen.
