D16Y7 help, strange rattling when accelerating.
Hey all, I've got a 97 Dx hatch, 86k miles on it. My timing belt was replaced at 77k.
I've noticed that when I accelerate, or if I rev it in neutral, I get this strange rattling noise coming from somewhere under the hood, as if something is loose. No CEL's, nothing else, just this. If anyone could help me with pin pointing what it could be, that'd be great. Thanks!

its something within your tranny since yours is an automatic i had thesame thing happen to me i replaced my tranny fluid all of it and it stopped doing it
It could be anything. You at least need to tell us which area the noise is coming from for us to be helpful. An automotive stethoscope really helps to pinpoint noises. You can get one at Sears for cheap. If you can't afford that, put the handle of a long screwdriver to your ear and touch the tip to different areas of the engine/tranny/etc.
But yes, loose heat shields are a popular cause and I've heard plenty of rattles coming from trannies. When people complain about engine bay noises, the most popular area tends to be the timing side of the engine.

Not yet, I'll do that here in a few when I'm up and going.
So you're saing I should flush my tranny fluid and replace all of it?

Most likely a heat shield. I eventually ripped off every damn heat sheild on my Sol because every1 eventually started making rattle noises over time.
check the heat shield on the exhaust manitold.... then check the heat shield on the catalytic converter which is part of the manifold.. then check the heat shields on the down pipe porton of the manifold
to tranny swap...
to lack of funds...P.S. Where in PA are you located?
