Default Starter not turning over

90 si with a LS swap.

The car has been sitting for about a year now and I have put in a new battery and starter, but it just wont turn. I can hear the starter turn guessing about one revolution and it sounds as if there just not enough juice then tik tik tik like cranking with a dead battery. My next attempt will be to push start the vehicle and cross my fingers.

Could it be something might of seized up inside somewhere preventing it from turning? I'm stuck here guys. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Sounds like you're not getting a good ground. Check all grounds. And you should be able to turn the motor over at the crank. That will tell you if it's locked up.

Checking for proper grounds was the first thing that I have done.

pull the starter out the car. take some jumper cables attach the pos. to the pos terminal on the battery, and hold onto the other pos. (you will see why later)

then neg. to neg on battery terminla, and put the negative to a bracket or the housing of the starter.

then touch the positive to the two spots on the starter and it should engage and spin with a good bit of force.

----now if it does spin you have some other small problems.

battery may be discharged and put on jumper cables, or a charger.
your grounds are faulty and need to be cleaned and secured down tightly.

i had the same problem with my b16 swap, and i sat my battery on jumper cables for almost 15 mins before it spun over and started my car

I did do that, hooked the starter up to the battery out of the car using jumper cables. It sounded/looked strong but it wasn't able to turn the motor so I went and got a new/remanufacture starter from Auto Zone and I had the battery tender on the battery for about a week already. The battery that I am using is only about 7 months old only and the Battery Tender is usually hook up to it 24/7. Also, I have used a wired brush attach to my drill to clean off spots for the ground points and sand paper for other small areas.

I don't know I might just start grounding other area of the motor and run it to main ground point where the battery ground is at on the frame and hope that might work.

Could be the starter ground or the engine is locked up. Depending on the condition it was in before it was stored/how it was stored the rings could be rusted to the cylinder walls. Quick way to test a bad ground is to just put the ground cable from your jump start wire on the batter and the other side on the starter bolt. If it works then there is your problem... otherwise it doesn't look so good.

Tomorrow morning I'm gonna ground a wire to the starter bolt and see what happens. I was thinking what if the engine locked up but I can still turn the motor with the wrench at the crank pulley and it felt/turned fine to me. The motor ran fine, everything worked fine before and and for storage it just sat in the garage for the year.

What is the jump start wire? If it is the little terminal on the starter where it turns the starter over then yes, I have done that too. I've installed like a push start button to test it out using a relay and a push button from radio shack(sparks scares me). It does the same thing.

I might just pour a cap full of oil down the spark hole on each cylinder and turn it 10-20 times just for the hell of it since it sat for a year. I can't stop thinking, How did this happen when it just sat in the garage for the year? Hopefully I don't have some unknown rodents that chewed a wire up.

i thought my motor might have been locked up after sitting for a night. i could turn it by hand just fine. im almost certain that it is a grounding issue and your battery.

Alright, I rechecked all grounds and ran additional grounds to the block and starter. I put in a starter from a CRV, GSR, and another LS just for the hell of it. Used jumper cables and hook it up to a buddy's truck. I am not having any luck here.

Yes, it does click and it does engage. It does turn the motor for about 1-2 seconds and you hear the starter struggling then all you get is tik tik tik like when you don't have enough battery power.

Is there a possibility that maybe the starter is protruding to far forward when it engages pushing against the flywheel?

Well the starter has to hit the teeth on the flywheel to turn the motor
