Alternative OEM oil filter: 15400-PLM-A01
Both filters are identical in size and functionally, and are of equal quality (watch the flames begin!). If they were not identical in performance, Honda would not sell them both.
15400-PLM-A02 is made by Honeywell (FRAM).
15400-PLM-A01 is made by Filtech.
In my area, A02's are easier to find. A01's need to be special-ordered.
Thanks man!
It seems the A01 is of a different proportional size than the A02? Or is it just me?
I'm going off of memory here, but one seems to have a slightly larger diameter?

I had a very interesting oil-filter conversation today (how boring am I?) with the very knowledgeable parts man at my local Canadian Acura dealership, where I've been buying parts for almost 18-years. A from-memory summary of what he told me is given below. Any errors or omissions are mine, not his.
15400-PLM-A01 and 15400-PLM-A02 are identical in function and sizing (as I said before); Honda treats them as interchangeable, and both numbers show up in the Canadian parts-databases. In fact, if my guy tries to order A01 from Honda Canada Inc., they will ship him A02 instead, because HCI does not stock A01. He discovered this by calling his contact at HCI to check up on the A01 number.
It appears that A01 is primarily US distribution, and A02 is primarily Canadian distribution. It further appears that both A01 and A02 are sold in the US, while only A02 is sold in Canada. Canadian assembly plants use A02, while US assembly plants tend to use A01, but may use A02 as well. This does make sense, since the US market is ten-times the size of the Canadian one, so they would benefit from two sources of supply.
15400-PLM-A01 and A02 are used on about 99% of Honda-made vehicles out there. The only exceptions are:
Apparently, the filter that fits the 3-cyl hybrids is also used on at least one Honda marine engine.
A final, trivial, note for those interested: In Canada at least, Honda oil filters are sold to dealers in cases of 30.
