I was wondering wht you guys thought of the k24a2's vs k20a2's for road racing, I've talked to a few ppl that highly recommend the k20's vs the k24's. Also, that the k24's are breaking the 6spd trannys because of the torque. 06+si trannys(longer gears, 4.7fd)or 02-04 typeS(shorter gears,4.3fd) trannys or even dc5R trannys(shorter gears, 4.7fd).

K24 won h1 this year. What class are you planning on running?

hey, yea i just like doing lapping days, nothing serious like you guys. I just like to have fun with some buddys out on the track. I just dont' want to build a k24 that starts tearing up trannys. Just wanted your guys suggestions and input.

We have both here in SoCal and tranny is not an issue so far. That is under race conditions . Honda challenge h2. We also have them in h1 and Meris just took the h1 national championship and I didn't hear of any problems.
I use torco oil for the tranny, half mtf and half synthetic and that was torco rep who suggested it .

 

from what you have experienced what do you feel are the advantages and disadvantages of both?

what engine do you choose to have in your car ?

 

I only know of one person that wrecks k-series transmissions. And it's 100% driver error.

 

I think this is the main contributing factor. I've only run a k24 (no k20 comparison), however I ran 7 one hour races last season with no transmission problems to speak of.

 

thanks for sharing your personal experiences guys. I was really worried about trying to even run a k24 with the z3 tranny. People just kept telling me not to do it because the torque was braking trannys. Unless that's straight drag racing when they do hard launches and such. Okay, now i can build a k24 with peace of mind knowing i won't totally mess up my tranny. Cool cool oh man, so exciting to enter the world of Kseries

 

Not to highjack your thread, but are there any "must-do" track mods for k20 such as oil pan baffles?

I'm guessing most people use 5w40 or 5w30?
