ITR ---> NSX...... Anyone?
Just kicking the idea (kinda bored at work)...
I always want the NSX eversince it was made... but I thought I will never afford a supercar in my life...
looking at the Used NSX, seemed that the price is reasonable..
How's a 93-94 NSX compared to 00 ITR ?
(sorry never really drive an NSX)...
and yes, as always, I do search.. but I want more opinion from ITR drivers...
I love my R.. but well.. kinda need more challenge on the 'let's save some $ aside' part of my life.
is the NSX Pull hard and FUN to drive like the R? loud inside and harsh?

how about for autocrossing? too long and wide?
Opinions...............................
EDIT: Anyone in Pittsburgh area with NSX want to give me a ride, I would really appreciate it.

I've driven lots of NSXs from bone stock to supercharged with race tires, driven them both on the street and track. I own a 98 ITR.
While I love the NSX and think it is a ton of fun, it is really a much different car than the ITR so comparing them is a little difficult.
Suffice it to say the NSX in stock trim is much less harsh and loud than the ITR, it's also only really fun to drive where you can drive wide open, whereas I think the ITR is fun to drive even at pretty normal speeds around town.
Compared to the ITR the NSX suffers two problems, one it is kind of big (so sucks for autocross) and the gearing is way to tall.
If I bought an NSX I would put in short gears and a Zanardi suspension, however that adds several thousand dollars to the purchase price.
With all that said if you want one you can now get 91s for under 30K with decent mileage and in good shape, beaters go for even less.

I've been behind the wheel of a NSX ('92). From my very limited experience since it's an apples to oranges comparison ...
Is it more fun to drive? Yes and no. The ITR obviously feels more raw. The NSX feels like a GT car if anything. Admittedly, the NSX is a better daily driver than the ITR.
For autocrossing, I believe it's outclassed (in it's respective class). It'll be fun nonetheless. It'll probably make a nice track car.
Oh yeah, check the insurance on an NSX before taking the plunge. Something about aluminum bodied cars that tend to make insurance premiums skyrocket.
I know it's not the fastest car out there in it's price range but I still want one. One of these days ...

Im looking to possibly do the same thing one day. Ive driven a 92 NSX and it is a blast to drive believe me. Totally different than the R though, its almost like a luxury car in a way compared to the R!
Check the NSX boards (nsxprime.com, nsxca etc) for insurance info...Ive seen several people say they pay less for their NSX's than their Integras!

NSX is one awesome car and I don't think you can compare the two.
I do have a strait line experience from a guy's that I rode in. It was a 91 model and we went from a 20mph roll (I was in the Super ITR
). I was freaking out because I was getting to race the first NSX I had really seen up close and was expecting to get wasted. Well we hit it and it just kinda sat there. I waited for it to start really storming away after it got wound up, but it never did. Just kinda slowly walked me. Needless to say I was a little dissappointed, but it was a 91 with the terribly high gearing. I have a friend with an early 90's as well that I love to death. Tricked out with intake, exhaust, 90 shot of Nawz, and shorter gearing.
I say it depends on what you are going to use it for.

I've got one of each. Let's see if I can address your questions.
In terms of what?
Acceleration/braking/handling/performance: NSX, no contest.
Styling: Subjective, but IMO NSX all the way.
Reliability: Toss-up.
Winter weather driving: ITR.
Cargo hauling: ITR.
Operating expenses: ITR.
IMO the last few items make the ITR the better daily driver, the first item make the NSX the better track car.
Drive one and you'll understand what it's all about.
I'm not sure what that means. But your first car is a necessity. You should worry about setting money aside for priorities like family and housing before you get a second car. Just my O.
The NSX "pulls harder" (accelerates faster). Both are fun.
No, not like the ITR.
The NSX is not particularly good for autocrossing, as previously mentioned. The gearing is taller and that gives you less flexibility at lower speeds. For example, shift points on the ITR are roughly 30, 60, 90, and 120 mph. On the 3.0-liter five-speed '91-96 NSX, they're 40, 80, 115, and 140. The NSX is wonderful on a racetrack (road course), even better than the ITR (which does quite nicely on a racetrack too).
The NSX, like the ITR, is also very good in stock form, and doesn't really need anything done to it; you can take it out on the track and do quite nicely, without any mods at all.
Under 30K and you find that an NSX has either high mileage (over 80K and probably over 100K) and/or poor condition and/or title problems and/or automatic transmission and/or not all maintenance performed (for early years, should include timing belt/water pump, 30/60/90K scheduled items, window fix-it thingies). An average-mileage (average on an NSX is 5K/year) five-speed '91-92 without any such issues in excellent condition typically sells for $31-34K, and slightly more than that if mileage is much lower than average.
The NSX is an insurance bargain. The ITR is quite the opposite. But insurance is easy to find out about, even without buying the car; just call your insurance company, or use an on-line service like http://www.insweb.com
Typical magazine test times for a stock '91 five-speed are 0-60 in the 5.2-5.3 second range, and 1/4 mile times around 13.8 seconds. Both figures are a full second or more better than the ITR. And I can assure you that on a racetrack, there's no contest.
There's no question, even the early five-speed NSX is way more car than the ITR, with better performance in every area. More fun? Fun does not necessarily equate with performance. I can have just as much fun in the ITR on the racetrack as the NSX - but I'll get passed by more cars. However, the ITR is more versatile (as noted above). If I had to own only one car, it would be the ITR, not the NSX.
There are lots of good resources available about the NSX, including a great NSX FAQ (answers to Frequently Asked Questions) and a very active messageboard at NSXprime.

Thanks.. I knew that you have both ITR and NSX..
hehe
by the way, ITR is my 2nd car now.. my 1st is a 93 Civic Si that I think will run at least another 50,000 miles.
I think I'd rather step up from ITR to NSX than making my EG an ITR-like car with better engine and such and such..
So it's true that NSX is a bargain on insurance.. the opposite of ITR....
(not that I got burnt by insurance but for the same amount, I should at least think about it)...
Ah.. gonna find someone with NSX around..
hm.. I never really been in a track yet.. but I go autocross sometimes....
Thanks for the good report.. I am hanging out at nsxprime just now!
it's like learning a specific car all over again (back in 98 when I really want an ITR)
