Default Difference between 93' h23 and 96' h23???

So I have to replace my blown h23 engine out of my 96 si and I found a cheap h23 locally from a 93' I believe. I got a call just now from the shop saying something about there being a sensor for the crank attached to the block on my 96' and the 93' doesn't have it like that. Wtf does that mean? Even after all my research I have never heard of any differences between 92-96 h23 engines. Only the obd I and II difference. Help please

The OBD2 has a sensor or two on the crank for the distributor that's in the distributor on the OBD1.

Yep crank position sensor mounts down there behind the crank pulley to the oil pump instead of integrated with the distributor. If your are getting a good deal on the replacement engine you could always swap out the distributor, oil pump, and crank pulley. Make sure and switch the crank pulley for the balance shaft belts because that is what the crank position sensor reads IIRC. Switching those components between old and new would work I would think. Good luck
