Default I'm just curious.....

Why does it seem like everyone in this forum who does an engine swap, converts to a B16? I'm not dissing anyone, but I just wanna know plain and simple, whats so great about them? Does anyone ever swap to anything else?

It has a great rod/stroke ratio...it makes good power....it has VTEC yO... j/k It responds well to all motor mods. Cams make a lot of power in the b16a. It is a b series motor. Therefore there are plenty of aftermarket parts for it. The one downside is that it lacks torque compared to other b series motors..especially the b20...but if you want torque get a car with a larger displacement motor or put a turbo on your current motor. The b16 is a high revving motor that is fun when put in a light chassis plus it is cheap when compared with its bigger b series brothers.

I'm swapping my DX intake mani for an Si, and the DX exhaust mani for a STD mani for my turbo!

Not an engine swap, but you do not have to do a swap to gain power.

Lets start the list:

1. Cheap
2. Responds well to aftermarket mods (I/H/E, etc)
3. Easy fit, drop right in
4. More power than the SOHC swaps
5. DOHC
6. VTEC
7. You can say you have a hybrid EF
8. Cheap
9. Rod/Stroke, good head, decent bottom end
10. Cheap
11. Large aftermarket support
12. ITR Intake Mani swap/CTRITR Cams/etc.
13. Cheap

And the best reason...it's cheap; compared to a b18c1, b18c5, b20, etc...

Cheap, lots of Mods, vtec, relatively easy swap, itr parts swap over if you want that. If you blow something you can get another motor or tranny for cheap again.

Whats a descent price on a B16? Is it possible to swap in a B18C, or an H22? J/C? I've heard of people doing it, but I kinda find it hard to belive. Oh well.

No no no. Cheap is anything under $1,000!!!

At least, for the rest of us that have SUCKY JOBS!

$2,000 on a B16 swap - if done right!

I've spent about $800 on my Z6/Y8, but I wasted a lot of that on useless junk.

I agree with this completely. Except you have to move #7 "I have a hybrid" (not doing it to please anyone but myself) to number 13 or off the list.

Unfortunately cheap was 3200 for b16 installed myself, with headwork, and lots of other sh$t. I wanted b18c5 ultimately, but this will get me buy as I save more money.

So what are you going to try?? Theres like one other Hybrid in my town that i know of and its b18a, another common swap for around the same price as b16.
