Default 2001 Civic OBDII Scanner wont read.

Hey guys,
So my tranny just blew out and i recently purchased a innova 3030 OBDII scanner and when i plug it into the port it will just say reading.. reading.. error and wont give me any feedback. I think it might be a connection problem...
Or could it possible be my port is damaged?

Thanks.

Does the car otherwise run okay? (besides the transmission)

Have you had any other electrical problems?
Random blown fuses?
Intermittent component failures?
Any issues with the charging system indicator or components?

Have you tried using a different scanner on your car, or tested that particular scanner on a different vehicle in order to verify that it is working properly?
