Icon7 STACK ST200 Inside Factory Cluster

I needed a tach that read to at least 9k and the only factory tach that does that is the si cluster but they are not dead accurate. I decided to invest in a STACK ST200, retrofit it into the cluster and I did. Here are two pictures. If you have any questions feel free to ask. It required a lot of patience and steady hand with the dremel.

Well, it definitely isn't too pretty.... But I don't mind the look.

Where is your wiper stalk on that column? O_o

Looks good! Those tachs are about $300 right?

I don't run wipers, car is not daily driven. Only drive to track events and back. I originally ordered the gauge black faced but when I opened the box at home it was white. Instead of returning and waiting for the black face, I kept the white. Besides I only look at the tachometer, not so much the speedometer.

Nice install and looks good. The black face would have looked a little better, but unless it is distracting or fatigues you in some way I would just leave it.

Either way, it is definitely more functional and accurate.

Can we see the pics of the rest of the car?

That's nice! Would've been really clean if you did receive the black one, but the high visibility white might actually be better in road racing because, like you said, drivers pay more attention to RPMs than the speedo.

Sure thing. I will see if I can find more. I have a bunch of old pictures but the car looks different now then it used to in old pictures.

I agree with you on both points. I initially ordered the black face to allow the cluster to still look stock. After the mix up on the order, I kept the white face because I pay more attention to the tachometer anyways and it would be much more visible to see at during the day and night as well.

Did you wire it in to the factory harness?

No the car originally had no tachometer in the cluster at all and I had an autometer bolted to the pillar. I have a power block that supplies +12v for all accessories. I cut the harness I made off the old autometer and adapted it to the STACK tachometer. I am not sure if the RPM source on the cluster is from the distributor directly or if it runs through the ECU then to the cluster. My RPM signal comes from the distributor directly, not the cluster. Less manipulation of the signal if it does indeed hit the ECU before the cluster. Can it be wired in to the factory cluster? Yes but I already had something there with everything I needed from the other tachometer.

the rpm signal goes from the distributor straight to the cluster. all 88-91 civic/crx have the rpm tach wiring pre installed, its just a matter of getting a cluster with a tach on it to have it read out on the cluster. so your current rpm signal is the same one that a stock cluster, like the ones i posted, receive.

so in other words your tach is no more accurate than a stock one.

Tell me where 8600 rpm is on your stock tach.

for your info this is my tach...

7100 red line, which is perfect for my bone stock LSV motor that i cruise in, with 150mph speedometer.
when i get around to building my JDM ITR motor this will fit it perfectly:
8K red line with final reading of.....
what is that 9500rpm

i prefer OEM look.

So unless your motor revs to 9500rpm perfectly, how is that more accurate? You are revving blind between 8000rpm and 9000rpm, you can not dispute that. Even then, your next value is another 500rpm away. Why would you want something blindly telling you where you are during the most crucial point before a shift? Sure stock is fine if you don't get past 8k. I wouldn't. My motor spends the majority of its life in that range so why shift in the dark? I have provided pictures to help explain accuracy just in case there is confusion.

Same signal, same accuracy. You seem to miss that point

What your looking st isn't accuracy, it's display. In which case you should go with a digital tach instead

So you can't point out your shift point? That is fine, that is what I expected. I didn't feel the need to tear apart my harness to trace the signal, and once again I think the third time I stated this that I already had a complete harness for a remote tachometer I previously had in the car. Why go through the hassle of taking that wiring out, to wire in the same wires that go to the same position? You don't have to like my tachometer, I didn't install it for you. But don't tell me you can point out a shift point to a minimum of 200rpm between your 8k-9k rpm range on your tachometer. You can't.

I don't have time to read numbers, it is easier to see where the needle is pointing than quickly read a constantly changing display of numbers. Even then, a digital display cost at minimum $1,000? That is being kind. AIM dashboard starts at $1100. I have a lot more things I would rather spend that money on than a digital cluster.

Thats great. So when you build a motor, you don't use a torque wrench to torque the head cause you can feel how tight it is? When you tune a car, do you just smell the exhaust to tell if its running lean or rich? When you air up your tires you don't need a gauge, you can feel how much air is in them? If you don't use it then why have it? Seems like my old cluster would fit you perfectly.

Yes sir, cuz that's how we do things here in Texas. Lol, freaking noobs. If you didn't know the oem tachs went that high, just admit it. I don't use my tach I look more at my speedometer than my tachometer. My crx came with a tach, I didn't have a STD hatchback. Sorry. I merely swapped in my EDM cluster for my lil bro n buddies who I let borrow my car, so they know when to shift. I will do this as well with my Jim cluster for my new motor when it's ready to go in.

It's your car, do with it as you please. I personally would have taken the extra step to fill in the rest of the gaps that the ill fitting tach you chose to go with left over. Don't half *** it. Clean it up, unless your ok with that sort of stuff.

I knew you would turn hostile, because you can't point out a simple number on your tachometer. You started bringing up topics that are insignificant, such as my location in Texas. And since when was I a noob? See my join date, not far from yours. Just because I don't have 6000+ post doesn't make me a noob.

Please tell me where I did not fill in the gaps? I am intrigued. I will even provide a picture for further inspection.
