Mystery pipe?
I finally got myself a 1991 CRX B16 V-Tec and have been singing it's praises for the past two days, until tonight.
I was showing a friend the engine when we noticed a pipe that wasn't connected to anything, just lying over the top of the inlet manifold.
The pipe is arrowd

The car has been running without faulf until i found this pipe, the idle now goes up and down from high to low but drives fine.
The pipe has what looks like a red valve that when the car is running is sucking, i thought it was to do with the rocker breather?
Any ideas people?

There is a one way valve that is suppose to go at the end of the hose and connect to a box on the back of the block. I don't have mine connected to the box but just have the valve and it runs fine.
I got the valve at autozone for i think 5 bucks or something like that.
Good luck hope this helps

its the hose for the pcv, it should be hooked up to the breather box on the back of the engine with a pcv in between the box and the hose. its there to have proper airflow through the engine block and head.
No, that would be the hose that disappears bottom center and runs to the intake arm off the left of the pic. As it was stated before, the hose in question is for the PCV valve.

PS - It's OK if you don't understand, I can provide pictures and diagrams if you need them.
Oh and on another side note - The Intake Manifold has engine vacuum while the Air Intake Tube does not. If you need help with this explanation too "213374U" just let me know, and I will be more than happy to break it down for you.
Thanks for the replys lads, i have a proper pic of my actual engine bay if that helps any more

So going by what you have told me that pipe should go to the air filter housing? b
I found today that after i gave the car abit of welly, the idle was fine afterwards, but if i was crawling around town the idle would go up and down.
I'm thinking that either the ICV or the throttle body need a good cleaning out. This sound right?
P.S.- Sorry if my terms are out, this is the first Honda i have had to work on lol

^^NO! it does not go into your air filter housing!! Like others have said, the red piece is your PCV valve. Disconnect it and shake it, it should click. If it does not click then it is clogged (stuck open or closed) which is common. Go get a new one for $5 from an auto parts store.
Once the above is done you need to connect it to another vaccum hose which leads down to the black box on the back of the block. Get under your car if you have to.
Your idle is surging because this is disconnected and you have a full or partial vacuum leak!

Sorry for the slow understanding people, bad week lol.
So the red part is the one way valve from the PCV system that attaches into a container on the rear of the block, so there should be an open connection down the back of the engine to where it fits.

Isn't that what was just said? This is NOT rocket science... this has to be one of the easiest things next to changing the oil and air filter on the vehicle. If the shoe fits, wear it...
You need to get off your hi horse lad and stop talking down to people as if their stupid.
Did you never have to learn anything?
No, I was born into this world as a "no-it-awl-jeanous"... Seriously though, it's works the same on all vehicles. The whole point is to get rid of the unburnt gases and such... You keep asking the same question that has already been answered like the answer will change to what you want it to be. This is one of the things persistance will not pay off for you... We can only sit behind a computer screen and help you so much, the rest is up to you!

N3va.... in that diagram, is 3 another valve or simply a connector? On my GSR I simply extended the hose from my IM straight to the PCV Chamber. No problems though so I'm assuming it's straight through.
But as i said this is my first Hoda, i have 9 other cars on the go and not one of them has a set-up like this. The reason for me asking the question afew times was to get it right in my head plus there was some conflicting ideas on what it was, plus if a diagram has of been put up earlier then this thread would of been a third the size.
P.S. - As for taking it too personal, i'm sure if i called you thick you'd be annoyed about it to especially on a new topic that you are trying to learn about. You can't teach people by being condissending lad, but atleast i know now. Case closed lol

That's the bad part about the Internet... You can't hear how I am talking or see the smile on my face... while "neat" the Internet/computers are the downfall of society. I have been saying that for decades now. Happy you understand now...
PS - Not everyone can read/understand diagrams.
