Decibel test, anyone know where to?
I got a fix it ticket at almost 12:00 AM for modified exhaust (infraction M27151), officer marked it a correctable infraction. I have all my paperwork, have my cat, dc carb legal header, carb legal aem intake, and a vibrant muffler (which isn't really that loud, my neighbors porsche is louder), does anyone know of somewhere that does decibel tests in southern california? I've heard that state ref does but I am not sure, can anyone point me in the right direction? Plan to fight it, all my parts are carb legal, not paying a bullshit fine if I'm not in the wrong
^x2. If you have a smartphone, there are several apps that take decibel readings. Just stand, what is it...50 feet? behind the car and have your friend throttle it to 4000 rpm. Take a reading.

On second thought, if you plan on using a DB readout to fight this in court, your best bet is to go to the ref and have them do a test for you. But the above is a way to do a reality check before you head over to the ref and waste your time.

ok.... get some ammo before battle..as long as its "cat back" you have nothing to worry about.. the test is highly unlikely to be done.. you must be at a set rpm which is impossible to verify due to the fact the cop holding the decibel meter isnt in the car at the time of test.. he must be at a set distance with equipment on while you drive by at a set rpm.. the bottom line you got profiled. its a ****** f er but you gotta stay in a higher gear then necessary to avoid attention..
Seems to me all you'd have to do is hold the dB meter at the correct distance while the ref revs it to 4K (which is what I think they do the test at). I don't see why it would have to be done as a drive-by. I've heard of people getting pulled over for loud exhausts and slapped with a fix-it ticket, then taking their car to the REF to get tested and presenting the results (under 95dB, or whatever the limit is...I'm not sure) to the judge and getting out of the ticket. But then a week later, the same cop pulls them over and does it again. Never ending cycle. :p
