Default Best Intake for '95 Si

Hey guys im the new owner of a 1995 civic Si !!!!!!! so pumped to finally have one. Anyway im definitely looking to up the power on this vtec machine so im curious as to what the best cold air intake is for my car. also are they easy to install? Im kinda scared about doing the work myself since i dont want to mess up this beautiful machine but yeah i figured i would work on the engine instead of being a typical kid and going out and buying speakers first so any suggestions that'll help me go faster?

if u want a power added save up and play with the big boys and get a turbo kit form go autoworks.com... and intake is useless for power on a d series and a header will be useless if u wanna go turbo later.

imo, remove the baffle/silencer from the bumper and get a K&N drop in filter

when i got my intake i definetely felt a differnce. people were telling me not to get an intake saying it wont do anything and that i wont feel a difference. but after my intake install i felt a pretty big difference. of course it wont really add a lot of speed. but your throttle response will increase. that right there is worth it. also when i shift gears it pulls a lot harder and grabs a lot harder. when i went to a bigger piping for my exhaust i didnt feel a big differnce tho, but i think the intake really brought it out since they work as a combo deal. they both benefit one another.

as for what intake to get. they say there all the same. only difference is cold air intake or short ram intake. get a cold air intake, its better

A cold air intake is NOT better. If you read around in the all-motor forum the best simple answer for an intake is a tuned-length short ram with a velocity stack + a good filter.

You'll "notice" any mod you do on the butt-dyno, but with a d-series it's been proven that you're not really gaining any power, but instead you're shifting power from the lower end of the power band and moving that power to the upper end of the power band.

Long story short:

D-series = turbo, swap in a B/H/K engine, or don't do anything. Anything else is generally a waste of time or a less effective way at going faster.

My piece of advice to you as someone who doesn't make much money, is save up. Do what you want to after doing TONS of homework and learning from other peoples' mistakes. I can tell you that it's a LOT of fun to wait 5-6 months, and then buy all of your suspension mods, for example at once.

I did Volks, Tires, Swaybar, Function7 brace, Progress CS-II, and a front swaybar all at the same time. It was so worth it to wait that long and do it properly knowing that I bought the right parts and have a car that impressed the instructors at the autocross school.

This is all in your head. All you did was shift the power band. Just because you thought you felt a difference DOES NOT mean that you gained any kind of performance benefit.

Check the link in my sig. Dyno charts PROVE that you don't make any real power. For what you do make you're better off just going generic (read Ebay).

Put a gaping hole on the right side of the front bumper and shove a velocity stack in it (connected to your "coldairintake" of course) its been proven to give u 59lbs of torque on the butt dyno.

You think you felt a difference because the car got louder. Granted, some people buy an intake just for this reason, but you will not see any gains worth speaking of on a D.

All intakes are not the same. Certain manufacturers take the extra time and effort to fine tune their intakes, which does make a difference. However this point is moot on a D.

According to this all you did was get a filter.

well all i was saying was cai is better then a sri if u dont throw any variables in it. if u throw variables in it, then it changes the whole outcome

as far as feeling a "placebo affect" i highly doubt that. it certainly pulls a little harder and especially when i shift gears, i can really tell a difference. i never said it will give u dramatic gains, but from what i noticed i had small gains that doesnt feel that small. what i mean by that is the gains on the car might be small but to me it doesnt feel that small.

yea i did just get an intake filter and attact it to my stock intake. i also made a custom vent/hose that connect to the outside of the car to the intake. so all the air flows from the outside to the intake directly. that made a small difference too. since i gotten the intake i noticed on colder days my car pulls harder. b4 that wasnt the case.

im not the best person to take advice from when it comes to cars but in my opinion the intake was worth it. i did feel a difference and i dont care what people are saying that its all placebo. if all i did was shift the power band, then that was good enough for me because i accelerated faster from the start and pulled harder when shifting. my responce increased. i feel all right there is a good enough reason to get it.

im not claiming it makes great power. obviously headers intake and exhaust isnt really worth the money if ur comparing it to a turbo, but when u want to do small increases without turbo, then this is the options you have. for some people out there, turbo is a future plan. for something to start with intake is a good option i feel.

btw as far as my car getting louder. that wasnt the case. i cant even hear my intake since my exhaust is soo loud. so that rules that out

Glad you're happy but next time don't misrepresent yourself. For the money I/H/E isn't worth it even compared to NOTHING. Been there. Done that. So I'm speaking from experience when I say that these mods make no real power. When that CRV leaves you at the light repeat that over and over to yourself that it makes a difference as you get to watch it's tailights fade off into the distance.

btw as far as my car getting louder. that wasnt the case. i cant even hear my intake since my exhaust is soo loud. so that rules that out
That statement was made because you blatantly claimed that you installed an intake when in fact it was just a cheap filter attached to the stock elbow and some rigged piping.
