Hey everyone I recently started to have a problem with my Honda Civic Si 08. The engine (guessing it is the engine), while in gear is doing a rubbing noise. I can usually hear it the loudest while going about 30MPH at 1.3k RPM but it happens throughout the power band. The best I can explain the sound is a rubbing sound for a example a eraser on a paper. The higher in the rev I am, the faster the sounds is. The sound goes away when I remove it from gear. If I am in idle in gear not moving and clutch is engaged there is no sound. Any help? Any Ideas?

 

If I can read your description right, the noise sounds like the trans, not the engine.

I would by looking at the trans fluid, or just change it and see if the sound decreases, I doubt that it will go away but perhaps you can buy a little time.

If your still under warranty I would get to the dealer and have it checked out.

 

Alright. Sounds like a plan. And I am at 41k i am not in warranty anymore, sadly. How much would something like that cost to get it looked at?

 

Isn't the powertrain warranty 60k miles/5 years?

 

It isn't hard to check the trans fluid any garage with a lift probably would check it for you for a few bucks.

I would ask them to change the fluid if I were you, I am told by members on this site that honda MTF Manual transmission fluid, is a special formula and not to use any others.

It should be around $5 a quart and you need 2 quarts, the job should take no more than 20 min.
