high HC emission! whats wrong??
here is the image of my smog result, this is the 3rd try, i finally passed. can anyone give me an idea of how to lower HC emissions? these are out of the question:
MAP sensor
O2 sensor
Catalytic converter. i've replaced all that. its all stock, has aftermarket exhaust, but still same size pipe until the cat. 2 years ago i had the same problem, very high HC, barely passed smog, and also my mpg isnt great as well, only about 22-21. its a 97 prelude. base model.

HC is usually caused by bad ignition, causing the motor to run lean. Could also be cat but you said you replaced that. Could have a leaky head gasket anything that will cause low compression. But for the most part just do a simple tune up, plugs, cap, rotor, plug wires and see if that doesn't bring it down. I mean you passed now so you dont have to worry about it. But those are the usual symptoms of High HC's
also to note: those few things like plugs, wires, cap, rotor you'd probably also see a little better fuel mileage but you are getting awfully low numbers at 21-22.
