Mine looked like that when I was s/c'd. Pretty sure you see that when you are running rich.

 

Yeah that's differently oil!!! Did you check how much oil is burning? How many miles? Try doing a compression test first and follow with a leakdown test asap.

 

Doesn't necessarily mean you burn oil. Could be just unburnt fuel from running rich like Derek said Happens when you burn oil as well though. Do you blow smoke in vtec? Compression test won't tell you much. Do a full leak down test.

 

By blowing smoke in vtec ITR1334 what would that indicate, that hes burning oil?

 

well when i picked up the car. i check the fluid and it was at in between the bottom and top. i figured because it was just running that all the fluid hasn't drained to the pan yet. it was slightly dark.

the car exterior and interior is very clean. so it wasn't a total lost but i am pissed i paid 15k for a car i have to put in new rings.


i drove from new york to chicago 820 miles and it burnt 1.5 quartz of mobil synthetic at maybe 2 vtec pulls and constant 70mph home.

i noticed when i went in vtec i see a cloud of black smoke.

you can definitely smell combustion gas inside the oil if you open the oil filler cap.

IM UPSET THAT I WASN'T INFORMED OF THIS WHEN I PICKED UP THE CAR. I COULD HAVE CLEARLY DESTROY THIS ENGINE ON THE WAY HOME HAD I NOT CHECK THE FLUID AND TOP OFF EVERY FILL UP.

 

Pretty much all itr's will blow a little smoke in vtec. Depends on how much smoke and what color.

OP, sorry to hear. Sad to see a dishonest seller. Honestly though thats not a ton of oil burning. Looks like a very clean caR.

I HAD A JDM ITR MOTOR IN MY GSR 4 YEARS AGO AND IT NEVER CONSUMED ANY OIL OR LEFT ANY TYPE OF RESIDUE ON MY BUMPER.......

I LOVE THE CAR, BUT THIS IS A BUMMER BECAUSE I GAVE HIM GOOD MONEY FOR IT. I WOULDN'T PAY NO MORE THEN 13K IF I KNEW.

I would do a leakdown test and then go from there.

 

I had a rich running condition, but would take a bit for the back bumper to load up like that.

Yours almost looks wet, I am thinking bad rings, maybe valve seals.

Too bad you didn't have it checked out before buying.

 

Sorry about the luck. While that does seem excessive I would try to calm down and do a leakdown test and a good tune up first. If it was running rich it could easily do that. Does not always mean it is blown rings. I run Mobil one but it is known for burning much faster than other oils. I would try something else, make sure the ECU is all oem/stock, and make sure no injector issue before I write it off. Good Luck

OH AND TURN OFF CAPS LOCK!

 

check to see if it smokes on a cold soak.make sure it has the factory pcm, fuel injectors, fuel pump. a leak down and compression test wont tell you if you have an oil consumption issue typically. especially if the car seems to run fine. if it is burning oil. change the fluid to a thicker weight and dont use a synthetic. might buy you some time.

 

Gonna do all that tomorrow and keep u guys updated.

I had no choice, I bought a one way ticket to come get the car. Trusting that the car has no physical or mechanical conditions.

Dont regret buying the car. I waiting 14 years. Just wished people would be more honest.
I'm not so sure that he even know it burned that much oil. He drove it for only 3000 miles. And it was more a garage queen.

Maybe whoever sold it to him wasn't truthful. But hey I got an itr. Just wish I didn't have to open the engine

As for him having it 3k miles, I am sure that showed up.

Do a compression test at least, if that seems ok.

Do a simple tune up, cap, rotor, wires, plugs, even the O2 sensor, switch to reg oil.

Then see how it is.

Another thing, if the car is not driven much can be just as bad as beating on it.

 

First off, I would quit running Mobil 1... It is **** oil for these cars... Try running regular castrol through it a couple thousand miles and see if that helps...

My 98 ate up Mobil 1, but my 00 and current 97 were/are running castrol gtx and don't consume any......

 

seems like it needs new rings to me, seeing that you burnt 1.5 quarts in only 800 miles. i cant believe you looked at an ITR for $15,500 with 78k miles though.

will try new oil. all i did was topped it off with mobil one at the rest stops.

tune supposely been done.

i will go over the car with a microscope tomorrow. gonna check EVERYTHING!!!!!!

 

besides the oil burning, this cars condition is well worth 15k if it didnt burn oil
