Default What is the cheapest way to go for a grinding tranny?

My tranny grinds in second and third above 3k rpms. And often in reverse too.

Should I get it rebuilt or buy a used one?

http://www.woodfins.com/ShoppingCart.aspx has a used one but its 379 + a 40$ core. Thats too expensive I know that much.

Reccomendations? I live in San jose, CA.

Thanks everyone.

I assume you mean for the 1987 CRX mentioned under your user name (make sure you mention the model, etc. in your threads btw).

car-part.com might be of some help, but these older models start getting less common.

I did write 87 honda crx SI. I just used invisible letters so u cant see them.

What ever happened to... nofx! I still listen to them. I found a place selling used trannies for 250$ plus shipping with a parts warranty good for 6 months!! Thats not bad but they didnt specify the miles on the tranny uh ohz.

Car-Part is great. But if you have a Pull-N-Save, it'll probably be cheaper to pull one yourself.

Car-part.com is just an inventory/directory site for salvage yards. NOT ALL THE INFO IS CORRECT, but it's still a good resource to keep around.

ALWAYS call before you drive over expecting the part to be there. Oh, and some pick and pulls are included in their site.

I definitely still listen to NOFX.

Pick and pull in Oakland had 2 crx 2 days ago, cannot remmeber the year... but use their inventory search at picknpull.com. The best part about Oakland is that you have guys offering their help for a fee... so if you are in lack of tools or hands they can be found on site.

Do you still have some oil in the transmission?

There is a pristine 87 civic at SJ north, it is a DB15A.... pristine.... 76Kmiles.... looking at the carb, , the hoses are all OEM and shinny new, so is the seat and interior... it received a hit in windshield and the top of the driver's door..... It is by the crushing area....

X2, except I'd go royal purple or red-line.
