Tranny Grind and Electrical
Let me try and keep this short:
2001 EX CP 5-Speed
Had trans changed under warranty (used car, long gone warranty now), they screwed up and put an LX in but I never bothered to have them change it out.
Trans finally started having the Second Gear Issue and grinding into second.
Lost second all together, just grinds, even with down shifting it will catch and pop back out.
Have been going from first to third no problem (except that I have to almost redline first or I have no ***** in third).
Started grinding into third, so I would shift from first to fourth(without releasing clutch) then to third.
Started grinding into 4th and 3rd.
FML
Now I noticed it doesn't happen in the morning until everything is warmed up. I know nothing about transmissions except to replace them when they blow up.... but this seems like a oil issue to me. It warms up and cant provide the lubrication it needs, does this sound feasible? And if so should I take it to a shop for a flush?
I don't have the money to change it out right now, but it is slated for taxes. If nothing else I would like the correct trans in my car. I was quoted $1,200 to pull it out and change the second gear sychro and the housing around it.... and $1,200 to just drop another used transmission in... and worry that it doesn't have the second gear fixed already.
Second is a quickie:
Few times now I have gotten in my car, turned the key and it just clicks fast. Eventually starts but I had lost all power. Didn't really effect anything except I had to reset my radio settings. Could this be the Electrical Load Control I just read a post about?
Ok, One last one:
After my head gasket something happened to my Upper Upper or whatever they call is O2 sensor. Getting slightly worse gas mileage, but it has been putting through until payday. Currently it surges slightly at lights for a second then calms down into idle. From about 1.5k to 1.7k, then drops to around 700 or so. No big deal.
Is this a result of the O2 sensor?

1) Is the slave clutch cylinder leaking?
2) You need a new battery.
3) Your engine is surging trying to charge a (nearly) dead battery.
Let me know how it goes.

As for the battery, I looked and.... my cables are almost corroded through.
Anyone know where to get good cables, or just hit up a local auto-parts store?
I believe an EX tranny has slightly shorter gears, you may not get as good an MPG as the LX tranny.
$1200 is about right if they pull the tranny. I would pay the extra $600-800 to have the whole thing re-built.
Usually they make you buy a roll of wire at the parts store. Hit up a car audio place and see if they will sell you a foot or two. Or go buy jumper cables of the same gauge wire.

1200 is crazy money, have you looked around for the tranny your self?are you able to swap the tranny out your self that way you can save a chunk of money
